Tips for high handicappers to speed up our round.

Pick your tee times.

My local is generally deserted on Sunday afternoons particularly around lunch time, so go shopping with the wife or do some gardening in the morning and play in the afternoon. Monday and Tuesday nights are also good times to play. Most courses have patterns and there's nothing better than playing millionaires golf on a deserted course by a little bit of foresight and planning.

My favourite time to play golf is after 2pm on a Sunday. Course usually quiet and a bit cheaper too. Normally no one behind you and you don't feel rushed.

It isn't just your group feeling the pressure and I'm sure the one behind you is the same. Enjoy the game. That's what you pay your money for and providing you aren't doing silly things then accept the pace of play at seven minute intervals is going to pack them in. Unless its a comp, play whoever is ready rather in distance from hole order and play provisional if you hit a bad one. It sounds like your group is actually a rare breed, caring about the others behind and that's a good thing in this day and age. Shame many others don't

We played today and the course was mobbed because of the nice weather. There was a 3 ball out in front of us that were quite slow and this made it a lot easier on us as we kept up behind them all the way round, and even waited on them a few times, which we weren't bothered about.

Took some of the advice given like being ready to play, and hitting whenever we were ready, not waiting on each other's exact turn. It's funny how little things like that made the difference and we had more enjoyment cos of it.

Thanks all for the tips, we had a better day today on the back of a lot of the info given.

I am with Dellbo and HomerJ. You should try and relax and enjoy the golf. Unless you fall behind the group in front forget those behind because, as others have said, it adds more delay.

If you relax you will play better and probably quicker -you will definitely enjoy the round more - which, after all, is the main aim !!

Thanks for all the advice, much appreciated. I'm going to have a word with the group about this before the round 2morro and hopefully we can have a less stressful round. I'm going to have a word with the group behind too, to make sure they give up plenty of time before they tee off, that way we'll get a bit of a head start. Thanks again.

Don't do that, really don't. For starters, how do you know how good they are? They could be worse than you. Secondly, if the group in front of me comes up and says, "we might be a bit slow, can you give us a bit of extra time" I'd immediately be thinking you're slow, even if you're not as the round progresses, where as if you'd not said anything I'd probably not even be thinking about it!

Just ignore the other groups. You're getting way too involved with what may or may not happen. Play your game and enjoy it and if there are issues in front or behind with the pace of play deal with them as and when. Don't go talking to the other groups as your just making a rod for your own back
