Timgolfy's first drive.....Guess the distance????

Quite interesting reading your reviews after yesterday. I play Beau quite regularly as I live nearby & know a few members. As I'm sure you found out, it's not a long course just tight in places & very penal if you are offline. My tip if you go back is to take an iron or a fairway wood on some of the holes...I'm particularly thinking of the very short par 4 about 250 yards (I think it's the 9th) Everyone takes the driver out to go for it & most don't make it & end up in the crap and usually end up with a 5 or 6. Whereas a mid iron & a wedge onto the green can often result in a par....it's the same on a few others as well......but like you, I learn't the hard way. Glad you enjoyed the day.

I honestly don't think it would have mattered what club I took on what hole. It plays ALOT longer than it is (especially in the wind) and with the speed of the greens, you've just got to *slightly* thin your approach shot and you're off the back 6 to 10ft below the green!

Both challenging and frustrating yet enjoyable and rewarding, all at the same time. The highlight of my day was any of the "non-gimme" putts I made and my driving in general. There was a few bad holes, but on the whole, my driving was excellent yesterday, which after literally months of fighting a round killing slice, was a nice reward, especially on such a tight course.

I didn't find the greens that fast. The practice green was lightning, but those out on the course were fine. If anything, it took a while for me to realise they were so much slower than the practice green.
The greens at my course have been a similar speed recently, although we have less interesting borrows.

Is your home course Augusta National??

I thought the greens at my place were a fair pace, but they are nothing compared to some of the ones at Beau yesterday. It might have been a combination of the contours and speed, but you could not be even the slightest bit aggressive with many putts yesterday (not that this was a problem for me who putted like a fanny all day :() without being penalised and your ball rolling more than 6ft past the hole. And the back to front down-slope on the 11th was just horrific!

Er...Oh yea, I forgot to mention, I can't make it to Blackmoor now. Sorry!

I know my putting needs alot of work. After yesterday I now know it needs even more.

I played at Beau on Sunday on their invitation day & have to say I've seen the greens much faster than they were...although they were still pretty quick. It's the amount of borrow that most people struggle with (including myself) and on greens where the slope is not that visible. Like all courses, it depends on how your game is. I tend to play to my handicap most times at Beau despite it being a tougher course than my own. The reason being it suits my game ie. not long but pretty straight. When I bring Beau members to my course they struggle for some reason.

I agree with Murph , they werent lightning and I left my first few putts short after thinking they would be as fast as the practice green.

nah I think the greens were deceptive, we all left a lot short uphill and the occasional downhill putt rocketed whereas some were quite 'normal'

what was harder were the movements, some looked slightly left etc and stayed straight wheras some straight veered off slightly (ask Region3 as he had plenty that done that to him :) )

So he hit a crap one on the 1st and a good one on the last, scored very few points, to be fair he never claimed anything about the rest of his game. What I want to know is how he got on on the other 16 holes off the tee, is the guy long or average?

Sorry for talking about you like an object Timmy, not meaning to be rude.

Also and I guess it’s got to be part of it, did he have enough chorizema to pull off his crazy ideas about how to go golfing?

Is this a venereal disease you can catch from a Spanish sausage?? :o :D :D

Ops: Charisma :o

though as you ask "Chorizema is a genus of the legume family Fabaceae." A flower it seems.
