Our pro shop has some nice shiny Ping Tour S wedges on offer at the moment and I've got quite a few bob in competition winning burning a hole in my pocket.....

I was having a look at my rusty Cleveland 588 wedges and the grooves seem to be a bit worn now. I've had them 5-6 years and never changed them - to be fair, they didn't get much use until a couple of years ago and have been hammered since then.

So I was wondering do wedges actually wear out or is that just myth? And is 5-6 years long enough to wear out the grooves out so that it might actually make a difference?

Finally put my Vokey 52 and 58 in the bag this week replacing my old T-Zoids which had v grooves and were pretty worn. Wow, big difference. Ball pulling up on little pitches and from bunkers like it had air brakes. Should have changed years ago. Now got to adjust to pitching the ball right up to the flag.

I do think they can get worn but it depends on how much you play and practice. I guess if the cash is there (in lieu as vouchers) then what have you got to lose. Even if you don't like them you'll get some proper cash back if you flog them on e-bay

As Mashie says, you need to watch the amount of spin you get from new wedges. If you're used to older grooves they may not spin much, new ones will pull up short very quickly.
I've actually gone the other way - so to speak - by dropping the new CG15's and replacing with Mizzy Mpt-10's and 11's. The 10's, although still the outlawed grooves, don't produce the spin of the CG15. So I have to get used to playing a little short of the flag now to allow for a small release of the ball instead of an almost instant stop or more often from range, suck-back.
