Tiger's stinger

Had a great day at the Wednesday practice day at Lytham yesterday and had an hour watching Tiger on the practice ground, wedges followed by irons then onto woods, he was hitting a 3 wood and flying over the 250 yard marker and then out came the 2 iron, he repeated a one high one low routine which was just awesome, the normal 2 iron went off like a rocket, climbed well over the height of the tour vans and the fence to land approx 240 yds and run out to the 250 yd marker, the stinger launched no higher than the fence at anytime pitched at about 230 then ran another 30 yds + past the 250 marker, amazing to watch.

I have perfected the stinger shot as well. Unfortunately it is with my wedge, and usually runs 30 yards through the green.

Me too. 1 iron, played where I'd play a 3 wood.

It gets about head high and goes about 170 tops....usually into the trees too. Useful shot.

Have to admit I was a little let down by it when it was described at the US open as I thought he was carrying it 270yds and not 230yds with some run... I remember seeing the one at the Chevron that went way past GMac's drive... and it looked mahoooosive.... apparently not

Back to Tiger, him giving a low three wood shot a special name is one of the things I dislike most about the walking charisma vacuum.

The stinger? Really? I didn't think his childhood had time for cartoons but maybe he did squeeze in the odd Thundercats episode to give him the inspiration for this pathetic moniker. Is life that dull that you have to spend time making up special little labels for your shots? Or was it some guy in the Nike marketing department that thought this would work after another coke fuelled rampage through LA with his PA and her mate?

Stinger? Ridiculous.

I think a thread on what other names Tiger has for his shots would be good. Given his past preference for white trash, I would guess a couple could be.....

High 6 iron - screamer
Right to left driver - hooker
Punched wedge - back scuttle
3 wood chip - slapper
Putt from off the green - plum sucker
Dead straight putt - pole rider
Missed putt - goatee scowling spit swearer

Shows how dull my life is though, I am making them up for him! Still he needs the help if stinger is his best effort.

I saw him hit one on the TV that ran about 25 yards. Rose then hit his driver and iirc finished just short of Tiger's ball.

See that Tiger was leading the fairways hit stat yesterday. Could be the shot that wins him his 15 major.

Just a pity that when the wind gets up Tigers stinger goes oot the windae.
I watched him for a few holes at Muirfield when Els won. If he was playing a members medal he would have lost half a dozen balls. He did well to finish in the low 80's.
