Tiger.

Tiger
At last years U.S Open, Tiger told South African James Kamte that if he qualified, he would play a practice round with him.

Tom Watson
inviting the 16 year old Italian amateur (sorry cant remember his name) who he played with in the Open to play a practice round with him

Blimey, that is picky. I see I'll have to be very careful with my use of words in future :)

Say what you like about TW.
That drawn iron he hit at 9 to get onto the green.
Absolute brilliance, and if I close my eyes now I can still see that taking off like a rocket.
Even my Missus was impressed.
That's what we want to see more of

That's been my point since the Tiger threads started. The guy's a genius, don't much care if he is a complete arse, I just wanna see him hit shots like that.

That's alright then eh,Tigers global work for the game of golf will excuse him then....get over it,most golfers like a head off moment...amazes me why it upsets so many folk.

I am not TW basing specifically I think all golfers have a duty to show respect to the game that has given them so much.
Watching Anthony Kim the other week, hit a tee shot into the crowd, not bother to shout fore and the ball hit a marshall full on, annoyed me just as much.

Same as the way footballers conducts themselves. They should be gratefully for everything they have and show more respect to the game.

It makes me laugh reading the anti tiger comments on this forum. To me the ones that dont like him are the ones missing out and the ones that do gain the enjoyment of watching the best player ever play shots that even the 2nd best player in the world can only dream of. he might not win this week but there is no other player in the world that can excite the crowds bring in the crowds and do as much for the game as tiger can.

As for the bad temperedness or as i like to call it emotion well if you are that determined and thing go wrong it has to come out somewhere. He lloked in generall far more relaxed on the course and was cacking away with Kj and Matt dont think they would say anything re his behaviour.

As far as I could tell, the biggest 'crime' Tiger committed was to hit a bad wedge, and drop the club when it reached the top of the swing...

'ang 'im I say... Bringing the game into disrepute like that.

He's a genius, the game is better with him than without him, he's also bad husband, and could be more polite to fans. Get me the Haig on the phone.

As my 4-yr old says to me "Chillax, mun"...

I'm not a Tiger fan (but then I'm a curmudgeon and there are lots of things I don't like) but I honestly didn't expect him to play as well as he has.
whether he keeps it up, we'll see - good luck to him if he does, but I'd still like someone else to win, preferably Westwood, Poulter (oh how bad would his press conferences be!) or Casey.

To get to the very top in any sport takes an aweful lot of hard work and dedication. Top sportsmen and women don't walk into the job centre and be given a card that says 'Professional Sportsperson'. They have to practice, practice, practice and then practice some more. They also have to give up things that you and I take for granted - being with their families, a fun social life that they can look back at and laugh at their japes and scrapes. They have to be dedicated.

I'm not advocating loutish behaviour, etc I just object to this train of thought that top sportspeople have to feel somehow lucky that they're where they are. Most of them will have ate, slept and drank their sport from when they were toddling and it's been their dream to play at Wembley, Augusta or Lords.

They've not won some form of lucky dip.

They're not priveledged either. That's landed gentry or WAGs - people who've got their wealth through a birth right or who've they've married.

Hands up on here who hasnt swore/thrown a club etc on a poor shot on a medal or a bounce game never mind a major

I'm trying to lift my hand...but it won't go. Damn

Just call me Jim Carey, I CAN'T LIE.

I've never thrown a club, not even in practise, I've dropped it but never thrown it. I have swore though, not loudly, just to myself at a normal talking volume.

All you Tiger watchers may have to wait until the Players Championship,as he's taking some more time off to re-evaluate his life.
Possibly a divorce?

Whatever anyone thinks of him there is no getting away from the fact that with him back golf was at last exciting to watch again....it will be dull dull dull again until he returns with big Phil battling it out with.....Fuyrk,Verplank,Watney,Waldorf....zzzzzzzzzz.

Me sir! Sir, me! Might have had a quiet word with myself, but that's all. :D :D

Ok so TW is a genius! Other's words, not mine. What a great shot around the trees and on to the green. So it came off that time. Any pro worth his salt could have attempted that and maybe 50/50 would have worked.

How many shots was he behind a very steady Westwood? How many behind a charasmatic Mickelson? Heck. Eagle, eagle, eagle minus a few inches. That was worth watching :D :D

I'm one of the Tiger critics over recent years.

I don't think it costs anything to treat others and the course with manners and respect.

And I saw a definite improvement in Tiger's attitude overall.

Yes, he wasn't perfect, but imo the effort was there, which, I think, is all anyone can ask for, considering he's got so much on his mind.

I also think that if he takes much more time off, guys like Phil are going to get so comfortable in their own game, that even if he returns to full form, he might well lose his air of invincibility.

This could well be the best year's golf of the century.

I think the new Nike advert with TW looking into the camera emotionless which his dads voice in the background, its made out to say "I lost my way because I lost my father", yet TW would never have thrown a club when his dad was alive, yet again we see his childlike behaviour on the course which doesn't set an example for anyone.

The Nike cash machine rolls on.

I used to throw them really hard and with venom.
So as not to upset my playing partners I've calmed down a little these days and if a club does go through the air it's usually an underarm affair and carried out with as much elegance as I can muster. It's not the same though. I don't get anywhere near as much satisfaction from it. I still swear at myself though, which is nice.
