tiger withdraws

I meant pressure from the media and outside of Golf on the course Tiger just beat people.

Totally agree with you on that. Once upon a time you could walk into, say, Pizza Express in St Andrews during Open week and find you're sitting next to a number of top pro's. I remember standing at the urinals in a pub in Lytham when Jack walked in. No chance of seeing them out and about any more.

To withdraw for the reasons given is suspect in my eyes. Nobody would expect him to win or even play that well, but the only way to get match fit is to play in matches, so what if he misses the cut this time it would be the start and he will have to start somewhere, what is he afraid of?? NO! there is more to this..

You almost got to see little jack (sorry I promised my self I wouldn't but hey), no but absolutely different times and it must have been amazing to see some of the major major stars in normal everyday situations.
If that was Tiger today needing to go the bathroom I bet 5 security guards would do a sweep first and ensure no one else was in there.

Never a great fan of his personality but boy what he did for golf was amazing. I would love to see him win again, especially a major.

I would say there's less than 5% chance of that happening though

And that is why I think it won't happen
Mentally I don't think can, or wants to, be an also-ran Journeyman, making a few cuts but spending most weekends at home.
He needs to contend and if he can't - like now - he won't come back.
Time will tell.

Yes, he doesn't want to just be a tour pro, he wants to be tiger woods. That's a pretty lofty target to set. In golf, your own expectation is often your greatest enemy.

I had a Nando's sat right next to Dustin Johnson when he was club house lead at St Andrews few years back.

I never followed him to the lavatory mind you. I was to busy trying to give Paula Gretzki the 'eye.

This article was written back in April so apologies if posted before - I've just stumbled upon it via a footy forum! Its quite a hefty read but there's stuff in there that I was quite unaware of and gives a bit more insight into where his focus was and perhaps, why always injured!

Without reading the link, the marine style training undoubtedly (to me) destroyed him.

A decent read. No doubt with a little bit of poetic licence but its not too far removed from what I read in Hank Hainey's book, which probably also included some latitude.

I hate to watch him struggle, and hope he doesn't return till he's fit enough to get round 4 competitive rounds comfortably. And that might well be never.

It was Hank Haney's book where I learned the nature of his training. He destroyed his knees first and seems like his back was just a ticking time bomb.

Tiger is chasing what I think is now an unrealistic dream. He has made a massive contribution to golf but I think it is now time for him to step down before he becomes a laughing stock. All these false starts about his comeback are not doing him any favours.

Why am I not surprised by Tiger's withdrawals. I can't believe that it can take over a year to recover from surgey, and allegedly he has the chipping yips! He's probably finished as a golfer!

Delc ,i had an op in august 2015 on my knee ,i am still signed off from work and the knee is far from being fully recovered .
so it can and does take more than a year for surgery to be fully fit from

I agree. It's getting to the stage now that whenever I hear about or read a Tiger story, I had completely forgotten that he was still around and actually trying to get back playing again! Unfortunately I think a lot of people only want to see him back in the hope that his game is so bad that it's actually compulsive viewing!

For me this is almost more worrying in terms of what to expect than the physical injury, I have always believed that a tiger Woods at 85 % of where he was physically still wins tournaments obviously not all of them but I would be confident that he could win at least 1 a season, this latest thing feels more of a mental relapse and if he doesn't believe it is over.

But he played yesterday by all accounts in a Foundation Invitational Day he hosts for 3-days at Pebble Beach and will be playing all the other days.

Isn't it just a case of announcing he's playing then withdrawing to keep the marketing and dollar machine rolling? After-all, why say you're playing in the Safeway when it clashes with his own Foundation Day Tournament?

I think those injury withdrawals and those horrible chipping woes when he last made a comeback are in his mind and to be honest he's scared. However he's talking a good game again and it's going to have to come to a point where he puts up and plays or shuts up and calls it a day. If he plays I wonder how mentally resolute he'll be and whether one or two errant shots will prompt a meltdown. I hope personally he comes back and is injury free and can play with a degree of freedom and find is way back. He'll never be free of expectation from the media.
