I was actually editing my post on this. See original

Haha. Saw that after I had posted. It gladdens me to see that you’ve got such a critical mind that you took that into account in the end. Good on you!

I can. That's why I have no interest in joining a club or playing with random people. I certainly couldn't stand 4 hours of racism, sexism or homophobia which many people like to make jokes about. I suspect a lot of men play golf because they enjoy the 'banter' aspect. Which seems to largely consists of taking the p*ss and insulting each other in a totally unamusing fashion. As this incident and many of the posts on this thread seem to confirm. In this case, as high profile professionals they should no better than to indulge in jokes that could be construed as sexist and/or offensive in public. What ever 'amusing banter' they indulge in in private is their own business. Though they better be careful who's around lest they get a hard kick in the plums.
If you joined our fourball you wouldn't get off the first tee. We joke about all aspects of human behaviour. Nobody is offended, nobody else hears what we say. I would never say anything I thought would be offensive to someone I didn't know well. There's one person who I sometimes play with who never swears. I wouldn't feel comfortable about swearing in his presence so I don't. Similarly, I am old fashioned & I, & the other members of my fourball, would never swear in front of a woman, unless she swore first. Despite being a dinosaur I think I've seldom offended anyone with an inappropriate comment.

As far as the Tiger thing is concerned, it was a childish joke. If anyone had done it to me I'd have laughed. My wife tells me that men often behave in a childish manner. I can't argue with that.

The leading golfer on the LPGA tour has an average driving distance of 271 yards. The leading golfer on the PGA tour has an average driving distance of 322 yards. Off the tee male professional golfers hit the ball further than female professional golfers. That's not sexist or suggesting women aren't as good as men, it's just a fact, they don't hit it as far. You have to go down to the golfer in 213th place for driving distance on the PGA tour, which is 269 yards, before you find one that averages less than the leading female professional. If men and women were equal then you wouldn't need to have two tours or separate categories in any other sport.

Go compare fairways and GIR hit. 😉

Apologies if these efforts have been posted earlier on this thread, can't be bothered to read all the posts from the offended but I've lost count of the number of times I've said "Did you catch your putter on the hem of your skirt" "does your husband play" or "You've dropped your lipstick" to a mate who's just cocked up on the green. And don't worry if you're the type of bloke who would take offence, I wouldn't be playing with you anyway.

I wouldn't take offence. I would just think you're totally unfunny. I can't see how playing a bad shot is related in any way to being female. But I wouldn't be playing with you anyway.

Probably through age & years of working in an industry where banter was an everyday experience it saddens me that in the woke world we now live in, people spend their days looking for the smallest of things that upset them & then spend their time moaning to whoever has the patience to listen to their overly sensitive rantings.

It's nothing to do with woke or being upset. It's simply because it's not funny and totally unprofessional. Though 'woke' is defined as being aware of prejudice and inequality and acting to stop it. I can never understand why anyone would have a problem with that and use it as a negative term.

There's one common denominator in all these meetings you've had with other people when you've ended up not liking them.

👏👏👏👏👏

@Crumplezone , I’m a little confused. You don’t like people, you don’t play golf and socialise with people at the risk of not agreeing with their views etc etc, yet your on a forum with peoples who’s views you don’t agree with and that you’ve never met.

In your opinion.

‘Woke’ to me implies people lapping-up American societal / cultural ideas and unthinkingly transplanting them across borders and in utterly different contexts.

The opposite of woke is certainly not an Alf Garnett type..

Grown adults in the UK who describe themselves as woke were probably swayed with whatever modes of thinking was on trend before that…loaded magazine lad-culture in the 90s no doubt..

And if you were to scroll-up you’d see my only comments on Tiger’s tampon was to see it as pathetic

Why? The discussion is about distance not accuracy. Tiger gave him a tampon because he out drove him, nothing to do with hitting the fairway or the green in regulation.

Because it's interesting to see how amazingly accurate female tour players are?

It's really no surprise that male golfers drive it longer that female ones. Didn't really need a tampon to make the point.

Just asked my wife who has no interest in golf, but had heard the story. Her reaction,

"Seems a bit pathetic that middle aged men are throwing tampons about as a joke. Aren't they supposed to be role models to kids? That Tiger Woods seems a bit unhinged."

😂👍

With his past history I think that Tiger joking with a mate about tampons would be the least of my worries if one of my kids was looking at him as a role model.
