According to Sky Sports on Twitter, Tiger's going to be making a special announcement regarding his future at some point this afternoon.

Surely he can't be retiring? My bet would be him pulling out of this season's remaining events to concentrate on his fitness.

interesting, no point speculating, lets see what Tiger has to say later today

Who the hell is advising him to do this? Surely, on the eve of the seasons best major and most important tournament, they would've kept quiet until the week was over and gave the winner a few days to revel in the spotlight! Just smacks of selfishness, arrogance and a belief that he is still the biggest news story in golf! If his 'team' are really looking to repair his tarnished image, then common sense should've been to wait until the next big PGA tournament following the Open.

??? bit harsh I think. Why would you carry on doing something that will damage your body and risk potential disability at an older age?

He has tried once already and re-injured himself so he should take as much time off as he needs.

surely doing it now is the best time? he says what he needs to, then the open takes over the talking. where as if he waits someone wins the open and he buts in a couple of days later and then takes there limelight.

He's got history for this though. Didn't he make an announcement during the accenture matchplay last year when he wasn't even playing. It's either bad advice or deliberately timed.

Jeezo, some people cant wait to have a go at Tiger

If he had waited til after the Open you would have accused him of trying to steal the limelight from the winner.

Its 3 days til the Open so his announcement will make the news tonight and the papers tomorrow, then the Open buzz will take over and he will be forgotten about til its over and the winner has had his moment of glory.

Would you say it was purely selfish if a British golfer had been going to make an announcement?

Also, like it or not, Tiger is still one of, if not the biggest story in golf

Well said PieMan. If there IS an announcement in the week running up to the Open about the TW brand then it absolutely smacks of maximum PR impact and in my view, this would be very poor form. It is tantamount to saying that I am not playing this week but to keep you mindful of me, here is my latest non-announcement. This surely is a calculated exercise to ensure that the TW brand, Nike and so on all remain a trended topic during the most popular golfing event in the world with the largest audience and global focus.

I hope there is no announcement but would not be in the least surprised if there was. Moreover, I would bet that it is an annoucement of absolutely nothing substantial.

It is just marketing.

The announcement is......there is no announcement.

Al

Aye, Tiger's agent Mark Steinberg has since come out and said there's no announcement expected... Which is all very odd because Fox were adamant he was going to appear on The Golf Channel at 11am ET (4pm BST).
