Never. I get caught DUI it's my job gone. But also partners brother got mowed down on the pavement by a drink driver. So if I'm driving it's soft drinks only. Not even a halfI wonder how many of the throws the book at him mob have driven home from golf after a few pints?
When comparing Tiger to Joe Bloggs, I think many assume they'll let him "get away with it" (if guilty of anything) because of who he is, and/or he has the money to make it go away. Whereas the book is thrown at Joe Bloggs.
I'm not so sure. If Joe Bloggs did it, it wouldn't be a major headline globally. You wouldn't have the local police immediately coming out and telling the press all about it. I know of about 4 guys at my golf club who have been done for drunk driving in last 3 years, most of them crashed their car. OK, lost their licence for a year. But apart from that, the punishment hasn't really hurt them too much.
It seems Tiger wasn't drinking, so possibly his pain meds, if anything? He'll suffer the consequences as it damages his brand. And it will probably hurt him more than it would hurt most Joe Blogg's who get done for drink driving, unless they drive for a living. A fine would be meaningless to Tiger, so that would just be a token punishment.
I was surprised how the police did cone out and quickly speak to media. Is that common over there, even before any real investigation?
I would agree that the punishment of just losing your licence for a year wouldn't hurt too much if you could have a car and driver on permanent call. However this sort of cost is beyond the reach of most. When comparing Tiger to Joe Bloggs, I think many assume they'll let him "get away with it" (if guilty of anything) because of who he is, and/or he has the money to make it go away. If he was taking Roids there would be absolutely zero impact on his driving judgement and reactions. Plus if all he was taking is Testosterone based there’d be pretty much no reason to refuse the urine test as it wouldn’t show up without that exact substance being tested for even then it would be inconclusive due to it being naturally occurring in the body. It would require a specific blood test and even then all that would highlight is what levels he’s at which could be argued. They’d need be certain which ester of the substance they’re testing for to isolate its specific results and despite what people think it’s not illegal to take or own especially in America. He could even get a TUE exemption from PGAT to allow him to take it and compete with the backing of WADA. Plus in USA TRT is regularly given out like sweets by Drs, so if he is looking jacked it could all be perfectly above board , and I very much doubt the Tour would turn down a TUE request from Tiger as their greatest ever asset.I think when you look back to the 2021 crash, he really should have been prosecuted then - foot hard on the gas all the way through the accident - the man was off his tits on something then, and I suspect the same applies yesterday.
That said, while I think he should be dealt with correctly through the legal process, I also think he should seek help - Tiger seems to be addicted to being in the limelight, he wants to control many things, and he must have taken more meds in the last ten years than most people will go through in a lifetime - that's a dangerous combination and it often shows in his face - indeed i almost posted a picture of him arriving at TGL earlier this week - his arms looked like those of somebody taking steroids - not saying he is, but that's what it looked like.
He's ramped up his involvement in controlling the PGAT, he's under pressure to play on TGL to boost the TV ratings, and every man and his dog seems obsessed about when he'll next play a tournament. He needs to step back away from everything, figure out a healthy life plan, and stick to it - if that means an odd event on the senior tour with a buggy, so be it. If he carries on as he has been doing, he won't be around in 15 years time.
Just think about what it takes to flip a car,to do it twice is crazyWhichever way you look at this it’s really not clever. If he was under the influence why was he driving? If so, the book should be thrown at him as a repeat offender.
If he wasn’t under the influence, why refuse the test? As importantly, if he wasn’t under the influence how did he again manage to turn his car over? Didn’t he learn anything from his life threatening, career ending crash a few short years ago?
Whatever is the correct version he is either a lying idiot or just an idiot and therefore goes down in my estimation.
Or does it raise a question of is he trying to flip it and if so whyJust think about what it takes to flip a car,to do it twice is crazy
The man seriously needs to stop driving.
Most people manage to drive SUV’s without flipping them once, let alone twice. It’s actually not very hard to flip an SUV, it can be done at 25 mph if conditions are right.
Not that I have done so, but as a professional driver, I have done some defensive training![]()
On the other hand it is amazing how many people seem to manage to avoid flipping their SUVs on a daily basis though. It’s actually not very hard to flip an SUV, it can be done at 25 mph if conditions are right.
