Tiger Disqualified From Open

Exactly that, he's by no means the only one who does it but he's the only one who ever gets mentioned on here!!

I've got to be honest, it pisses me off!! Like I said in the Kim thread, other players do the same and/or far worse but nobody bats an eyelid.

I saw Tiger throw his club this morning and knew, I just knew, exactly what was going to be said about him on here and who would be saying it.

Sooooooooooooooooooo predictable!

Keef

I'm not arguing with you. I'm just saying that as the worlds No 1 this type of behaviour will be picked up in the press and places like this. It takes nothing away from his genius as a player but does provoke questions as to the need to do this on a regular basis (club throwing) when the majority of the field accept a poor shot without the need to hurl the offending club.

For crying out loud, you lot need to get over yourselves!!!

Why is it that every single thing Tiger does is put under the microscope and he is berated for every little minor/major misconception??

I made a similar post last week I believe regarding Anthony Kim.....double standards

Mmmmm, It could be he’s the number one player, it could be he’s the hot favourite, it could be his every move is gone over many times by every single person who knows golf, it could be he’s a sour face git unless he’s playing well, it could be that he’s been cursing, it could be he threw or slammed clubs on a few occasions, it could be that he’s not a very good role model for the kids of the future.

That’s why. All predictable but he’s the top dog so he’s always in the spotlight….Kim is not.

This generation (Tiger is the same age as me so i'm speaking from experience) didnt grow up in the same circumstances and it has had ( having respect for others ), and will continue to have, a huge effect on how sportsmen behave.

Deal with it is all I can say as its not going to change.

So just because the yoof of today behave worse than previous generations in general, that makes it ok for someone who grew up in a protected environment to behave like a ganster rapper ?

Tiger isn't from the ghetto, you know. That's a strange assumption to make just because he is black.

And your final comment is exactly why we SHOULD keep on about it. To condone a lowering of standards in a role model is to condone a lowering of standards in everyone, especially the next generation.

The simple fact that you accept it shows that.

Do you find it acceptable to throw clubs and act in a similar manner on the course ? Because, for the sake of your playing partners, I'd hope not. And if you can behave in an acceptable manner in public, then why the shouldn't we expect similar behaviour from a cosseted young man of the same age, rather than the other way round ?

And as for why he's 'picked' on more than others. BECAUSE HE'S TIGER ! Look at the odds for the Open before play started. The expectation on him is head and shoulders above anyone else. The media attention on him is head and shoulders above anyone else.

Golf has given him everything he has in life.

Maybe he should give just a little something back.

He does give something back, he has the TW foundation, which is not that well publicised.

Personally, I don't care if he does chuck clubs. As long as it isn't into the crowd, who cares. It shows a passion some of the other robots don't have. Sport without passion isn't worth watching. If everyone was expressionless, and there was no visible difference to the player between a good shot and a bad one, then it would be pretty dull to watch. You might as well just watch it on the play station.

It's pros and cons with TW for me.

His post round interviews were duller than ever. It's like he hates the media and gives the basic minimum he can every time. Why can't he lighten up occassionally and give us a little humour after a so-so round like his? I would love it if he just came out and said "I played badly, there's always tomorrow" with a smile instead of the post round frowning sports-psychology babble.

I like Tiger, I don't really like club throwing however, the odd swear and odd spit doesn't bother me too much.

I don't think chucking the odd club affects his partners, they know he's not going to affect their shots, it's a quick act borne of frustration but TW puts it behind him quickly and moves on, no-one's better at that than him.
Woods observes etiquette fairly well imo.

He's not miles better than everyone else anymore. He's still the best but the days of 12 shots wins in majors are well behind him now. The expectation he puts on himself, particularly in light of how poor his tee game can be is unrealistic imo.

Lets see what happens today, I reckon he'll get it round in about -3 or -4 and be quite well placed for the weekend as low scorers from yesterday probably won't handle the inclement weather as well as Tiger.

Overall I just wish he'd look like he's enjoying it more than he does. He was well beaten by his 2 partners yesterday, not sure they'll beat him again today! ;)

I don't think Keef's condoning it, he's just stating a fact that times have changed and that it's only going to get worse so we have to deal with it.

As each generation passes, etiquette, sportsmanship and respect will errode, this is an unfortunate fact of life.
I'm not happy about it but there's nothing any of us can do about it!

*Blimey, that was a bit deep for 8.55 in the morning.....i need to go lay down.

Who did this? I started a thread to see if anyone had seen his putting stroke on 18 as I was out playing Golf and it was causing quite a stir on other Golf forums. However people have taken it on a opinions on Tiger behaviour route.
At no point have I called him a cheat or even accused him of being so. Its just not Golf to do such a thing old boy. One should remain stiff upper lipped and composed at all times.
