Just been looking around the BBC Golf forum and they are all going nuts about Tigers putting stroke on the 18th. I was out shooting a massive 29 points off the yellows so didnt see it.

They are all claiming hat he pushed his putt in instead of swinging the club, breaching the rule below: -

Decision 14 - 1-4, the following is stated:

In order to strike the ball fairly, it must be swung at with the clubhead. If the ball is moved by any other method, it has been pushed, scraped or spooned

Any of you folks see it????

He does it all the time so cannot think it is illegal or he would have been done way before this,,,,I reckon I have seen him do it about a dozen times already this season.

It's a good point made, at the time I mentioned it to a mate who was also watching. He really did look to push the ball!

Tiger's antics on the course were pretty poor - club throwing, cursing etc - and I thought that +1 was fairly flattering to say the least.

Maybe if he was to be DQ'd it would give him a kick up the you know where, and might improve his general conduct! :p

I whole heartidly agree, I saw him throwing his club accross the fairway today and I was utterly shocked to say the least. Bad form! :(

It would be absolutely no lose to me if he was disqualified.
After todays pathetic performance, his fellow pros must dread being paired with him.
He's an idiot.

I don't approve of his temper either but I have to wonder if it's a by-product of his ferocious will to win. It's like Roy Keane when he played for Man U...fantastic player but a temper like a bear with a sore head, that often got him into trouble. Pundits seemed to think that if he tried to keep his cool more often, he'd be a lesser player for it. Interesting theory that would explain a lot...I'm as laid back as they come and I've never won anything! :P

I’m surprised how well Ryo Ishikawa was able to conduct himself and deal with not just the pressure from the swarms of his own followers, but the additional pressure of the Tiger ‘posse’. Hats off to both him and Westwood for showing Tiger how to play the game! :D

Having watched most of Tiger's round today his conduct was awful.
His attitude to a poor shot was not an example to set to any young person taking up the game. It also seems that it is above him to shout fore when his ball is heading into the crowd.( I accept this is a problem with many of the pro's).
Having seen the Tiger "posse " at previous Opens it is without doubt a disadvantage to those playing with him.Why should he take personal security men with him inside the ropes. Is there really a threat to him in the UK?
What a treat to see a real master of the game, Tom Watson have a great round and conduct himself like the gentleman he is.
Yes Tiger is good for golf but he is not bigger than the game.

Good post.

I just wish I'd gone to the bookies and put a bet on Tom Watson playing better than Tiger today. :)

I didn't see the dubious putting stroke so can't comment but I did see snatches of his round and he looked like a petulant kid. I was annoyed on the effect it might have on my man Westwood. Woods really needs a D/Q to wake him up to the fact that he IS NOT bigger than the game.

Tom Watson showed all the younger generation how to play and behave at the same time as showing how to generate huge respect and admiration. I hope he can keep going and do some good for the game. Also loved Howell today, hope he does well.

As great a golfer as he is, I think Tiger is in danger of becomming a complete tit!

For crying out loud, you lot need to get over yourselves!!!

Why is it that every single thing Tiger does is put under the microscope and he is berated for every little minor/major misconception??

I made a similar post last week I believe regarding Anthony Kim.....double standards

I think the problem is that Woods is a benchmark for the next generation and so juniors at clubs everywhere will see his club throwing, cussing etc and think its acceptable behaviour. Its no different to kids on a Sunday playing football and trying to get players booked or diving because its what they've seen on TV.

Woods has raised the bar in golf to huge heights and has pulled the overall level up with him which has to be good. It is no longer ok to be just a journeyman and still have an ok world ranking as there are so many good players around now. However no-one is bigger than the game and the etiquette and he just needs to remember that sometimes.

We've done this argument to death before in the past though fella!

This is the way of the world now and the way the world is going, there is nothing you, nor I, nor Tiger can do to stop it.

Your Arnold Palmers, Jack Nicklaus', Gary Players etc are not the top players in the world now, these were a generation of players who grew up in a much different world to what this generation of players have grown up in.

The old generation grew up and called all ladies ma'am and all men sir, got a good hiding when they were in the wrong etc etc

This generation (Tiger is the same age as me so i'm speaking from experience) didnt grow up in the same circumstances and it has had, and will continue to have, a huge effect on how sportsmen behave.

Deal with it is all I can say as its not going to change.

I agree with the different era bit and respect for elders etc but that still doesn't condone club throwing. Its not just Tiger that displays petulance at times although as the biggest nem in golf his actions are more widely seemed. For what its worth I think overall he's an asset to the sport but he does have responsibilities to the game that has given him such a comfortable living.
