Tiger commits to more events - including Dubai Desert Classic

Viewing figures are better when Woods is playing though, so sure, golf can survive, but it's not as popular. Look at the 2015 Masters viewing figures for example, they were up 48% on the Saturday and 26% on the Sunday compared with the year before when Tiger wasn't there. 2014 was the lowest rated Masters tournament since 1993.

Yep in the US the figures do increase when Woods is playing - that's not a new scenario , as I said earlier there are a good number who only watch golf when Woods is playing especially in the US. I don't think it makes a difference in this country or indeed Europe because i reckon ( just an opinion ) that the golf fans in Europe just want to watch good golf - they have their favourites but we all still watch golf. I don't believe it's the same in the US

It's good that Tiger is coming over to support the Dubai Desert Classic. It's an event that has been in the shadow of the HSBC Abu Dhabi in the last couple of seasons on the Gulf Swing. So having Tiger in attendance with Rory and Henrik can only boost the European Tour and Sky's viewing figures. Let's hope he get's through Torrey Pines, fit, healthy and playing some reasonable golf.

A lot of current golfers are terrible to watch I know that I am more likely to watch if Tiger is playing

I wouldn't say terrible to watch, but just not interesting.

I'd rather watch Tiger shoot 72 than Brendan Steele shoot 65.

It would be nice to see him competitive, but I just hope he plays without any injuries or glaring (yipping) issues. If he plays these 4 without getting injured I predict he will win a tournament this year at some stage.

He is a bit of a different Tiger too. I note in the interview he gave last time out that he said something like "I used to run 30 miles a week" (I was surprised at actually how little this was) "but I WONT be doing that now". Also lots of bump and runs and less ripping at it, I think he said he was pretty happy with 290 carry so he wont be joining us here. Without doubt he smiles more too.. Tiger phase 2. Protect ones self a little.

Ok terrible was overstating it but I find myself flicking the channels more, especially when Boredom Speith, takeall day or Dumb Johnson are in contention.

There's obviously no right or wrong in people's opinions, but out of curiosity why DJ?

People always mention the fact that he's not the brightest, but surely that has nothing to do with how anyone plays golf.
He's not slow, absolutely rips it and walks like John Wayne. What's not to like?

Strangely I think its one of his charms.

I think it's the confused look on his face all the time like he isn't sure where he is and what he is doing and the ugly ugly swing

I think its a sound move for Tiger. It's a European event (I'm fairly certain) and so in HIS mind perhaps a lower echelon field where he can get to the weekend and get some more rehab in comps sorted.

Undeniable but....
Should Tiger keep missing cuts, will the viewers keep watching..?
I loved watching Seve or Ollie but when they started to struggle and miss cuts what are we watching..?
If Tiger's missing the cut by 5 every week, that's going to get pretty boring very quickly - even to the most ardent fan.

By the way, I hope he does mount a comeback....I just don't feel his game, mind or body are going to let him.

He did have the most birdies in his last tournament so maybe his game is there but he needs to cut out the doubles

Thing is with Tiger, he's not reaching the expectations of his huge fanbase, but he's not been playing that badly when he has played. In 2015 he only missed 4 cuts out of 11 tournaments, so it's not like he was missing the cut every week, he just wasn't competing at the top of leaderboards like we're used to. He had a Top 10 at the Wyndham and Top 20's at The Masters, Farmers and Hero World Challenge, he just wasn't contending.

I do agree though, if he started missing cut after cut the mystique and the excitement to watch him play would eventually die off, but that's not going to happen any time soon. His 65 at the Hero proved he still has some seriously good golf in him, just needs to iron out the mistakes and get some holes under his belt. If he can stay healthy, which I really hope he can, I think he can have an excellent 2017.

For sure. I am pretty unlikely to make time to watch golf unless its a major or Tiger is about though. It must be a common theme or they would not show as much of him.

The office I work, no one really talks about golf. But the other week when Tiger was back there were a few lads talking about it in the office and some even asking if I fancied going to the driving range off the back of watching him again.

Whether you like him or not, no one moves the needle quite as much as him.
