Tiger has committed to play 4 events in the space of 5 weeks starting 26th Jan. He's going to play:

Farmers Insurance Open
Omega Dubai Desert Classic
Genesis Open
Honda Classic

Pretty exciting as a Tiger fan. Setting himself up for a good season I think. Hopefully he'll be in peak form by the time the Majors come around.

Would be brilliant to have Woods and all the young pretenders in brilliant form. 2017 has the potential to be an amazing year for golf.

Is the Desert Classic the same one that Dustin Johnson is playing in or the one with Stenson and McIlroy ? That's a lot of appearance fees to play in front of empty crowds. Can see Woods , Stenson and Rory being put in the same group ( well for the first two days )

I also like to see Tiger on the box. He's done a lot for the sport and is considered one of the greatest of all time, so it's nice to see him competing against today's best.

It's the one with McIlroy and Stenson, so yeah, them 3 will likely be paired together.

Hahaha, glimpses of absolute genius, loads of TV coverage, full analysis of his swing and every shot ... Missed cut.
I hope you are wrong but you never know with this game.

Hope I'm wrong too, been a fan for ages - think I've got Tigercomebackfatigue though. Wonder if I can get a referral and/or time off from work?!

Just hope the four events aren't wall to wall Woods regardless of how he is playing - the sport is no longer about just him now and people want to see more than just Woods

Great telly would be if he is fighting down the stretch with Rory and Stenson for titles not if he is 10 shots back hacking it around

Viewing figures dictate this quite a lot.
I remember reading years ago that the networks in America had 3 viewing figures for golf and they were dramatically different depending on the following;

Tiger Woods not playing
Tiger Woods is playing
Tiger is in contention

It's not all about the money but most of it is.

There are a lot of people who are Woods fans first and foremost - if he is playing they will watch , if he isn't then they just don't bother

There are also the ones that watch to see him fall apart and the telly companies will jump on that hence why even when he maybe double figures behind the leader they are still showing him on the telly.

The one thing that has shown over the last 3/4 years is that golf can survive without Woods - golf doesn't need Woods which may take some pressure of him when you think for a decade he was the only player that held the game up. There have been some spectacular rounds of golf and great comps over the last couple of years - and there is a lot of golf shots from lots of different players that we have seen - just showing one player regardless of how he is doing will imo get people switching and that only satisfies that players fans.

Viewing figures are better when Woods is playing though, so sure, golf can survive, but it's not as popular. Look at the 2015 Masters viewing figures for example, they were up 48% on the Saturday and 26% on the Sunday compared with the year before when Tiger wasn't there. 2014 was the lowest rated Masters tournament since 1993.

True story...

I think it's genuinely great news for the game, to have Tiger playing in these tournaments shows he's physically fit enough to where he believes he can compete again.

He may not actually win these tournaments and I'm certainly not expecting him too but I'd love to see him somewhere near his best. The perfect scenario would be him, Rory, dustin, spieth, Fowler, all a couple shots apart going into the final round at Augusta, that would be golf that no-one would want to miss.

Personal opinions aside, it's not great seeing the once world's greatest golfer being crippled by injury to the stage where he can't play. I agree that there's a bit of a media circus around him when it comes to watching live coverage and Its annoying when he's 12 shots behind the leader yet we're having to watch him but that's not his fault.
