Tiger as Withdraw From The Players Championship

I think any little respect he had has just gone. Wait 24 hours for a nice press release about being injured again.

Go away Tiger, no-one cares any more.

what is it with the tiger haters on this forum. the guy was limping badly from word go, arguably shouldnt have tried to rush back but it is a big tourney

golf is far better for having tiger in its ranks, the guy has done huge amounts for the game and is still the biggest draw in the game, despite the "anti-tiger" brigade on this forum

He's done huge amounts for the game, but he needs to know when to call it a day.

Not make a half arsed attempt to play if he knows he's injured.

I agree, Tiger shouldn't have played injured, you'd never get Lee Westwood doing that, oh wait, yes you would...

I disagreed with that as well (and I'm a massive Westwood fan). You just make yourself look like a right pleb.

But its the same as, say, StevieG playing for Liverpool knowing he's carrying an injury. He could be making it worse but he thinks (and the Medical staff think) he can get away with it. 30 minutes into the game he pulls up and is out for a month.

Tiger thought he could play through the pain, as I suspect Lee did, but it didn't work out.

People pull out of Tournaments every week - this is no big deal.

Of course it's a big deal! This is Tiger we're on about. ;)

Couldn't agree more - they WILL make a big deal of it when, in the great scheme of things, it really isn't.
Good job I won't be watching.. :D

I'm Sky+'ing it so I can fast forward all the Tiger talk later.

The Yanks seriously need to learn to move on from Tiger for his benefit and everyone elses. If he makes a comeback down the line, great. But until then, can you please focus and cover the guys who are actually playing golf abd competing for tournaments.

Agree tiger is a massive crowd drawer in the world of golf but if he's not fit he shouldn't appear. Plain and simple.
Saying that, a year and a half ago a 75% fit tiger was good enough for a top 5 placing......

Fixed your post.

Its amazing how quickly people forget that he won 7 times in 2009. So many people seem to have this idea that his game has been on a steady decline since he won the Masters by 12 shots!

Tiger may well be finished, only time will tell, but if he is it wont be because hes "lost it" or "cant putt anymore" or "is not mentally strong enough" it'll be because of his knee.

Hes the best player of all time and hes reaching the peak age for golfers, being his mid thirties. If he can get his knee sorted out (and its a big if obviously) I have no doubt that he will get back to the player he was before, if not a better one.

Agree entirely, except it was the US Open by 15 shots, pebble beach I think, he was the only one under par, and he was 12 under, closest competitor was +3.

I would dearly love to see Tiger back to that sort of form, whatever you think of him as a person, you can't deny that when he is at his best, he is simply untouchable

I certainly miss Tiger as part of my tv golf viewing. After spending over a decade watching him tear the field up it hasn't quite been the same since. Bubba Watson is quite amusing at times with his 350 yard slice or I suppose there is always guess what colour of the rainbow Ricky Fowler will be dressed in but the rest of it is just a bit sterile. Get well soon, Tiger. (As if he'll be reading this!).

Totally agree. Yes Tiger is big box offcie but the game of golf survived before him and it will once he retires. For those with long memories everyone thought Seve (RIP) was the biggest draw around and so if he didn't play or played badly there was a lot of attention, albeit not in the microscopic detail of todays coverage. When his back (in his case) let him down and he wasn't the player he was but still carried on much was writtent about how it is bad for the sport etc. He wanted to prove something to himself and no-one else. I fancy the same applies to Tiger. It isn't like he's goign to be short of a bob or two even after the divorce settlement if he called it quits now.

If he was several under par at the time would he have left? No, of course not. He supposedly played 5 rounds at the US Open with all sorts of incredibly painful and debilitating leg injuries, but made it through to win, but now its all too painful to even finish the round? I dont believe it, his winning is everything attitude meant that when he realised he couldnt win, he left. Just as well the rest of us dont play that way else there would be few of us ever playing the 18th!

well one thing, the sky coverage wasn't wall-to-wall Tiger, at least not in the 3 hours I watched. yes it was mentioned a couple of times but not dwelt on.

I think he just came back too early, as many others have done. Part of his prep for next month's major? If so that's now gone, as I think, is his shot at Jack's record.

(and no, I'm not a Tiger fan)
