Tiger & Another Major

Well just had a chance to have a check at the scoring as I have been rather busy today after a 36 hole event, good scores outh there but could not believe how far of the mark Tiger was. Any reason for him sitting so much over par, what part of his game was not on song.

Thanks for your help.

The easy answer would be that bit between his ears - but in fact this may indeed be the case.

And with every Major that passes that pressure increases.
Run-of-the-mill Tour events and the WGC's are not really what Tiger's interested in - yes he wants to win but it's the Majors that interest him.

I said s much earlier in the thread to the general chorus of "what pressure" and "these tour pros dont feel the pressure"
What pish, the ecpectation that goes with a major is high, very high thats why rhay are called MAJORS, the diddy events he can win with ease.

It's like watching 2 different players last week and this to be honest. He's hit some good approaches and missed the putts and also hit some absolute shockers. It's almost like he wants it too much and is trying to force it. As Butch said, there is something going on in his head, who knows what it is.

The way Tiger played Muirfield was stooopid. He was too busy trying not to lose it, rather than going out to win it. If he continues to go into majors with that state of mind he may struggle. But like I said, still reckon he'll get another.

I agree. Admittedly I don't know a lot about Nicklaus' play,.. did he used to tee off with just irons?

No one has ever won Muirfield by playing safe, Nicklaus played it in exactly the same way as Tiger in 1972 when Trevino won [via Jacklin].
Nicklaus did not use a driver until the last round when he was in the lead with 8 holes to play. He then went safe again and lost it.
The course was set up very tight for that Open and the rough was up.

IMO Jack threw away a lot of Majors by playing safe........look at his record of 2nd places.

Watching the early TV coverage and have to say Tiger is having an absolute stinker off the tee, that drive ive just watched is about 60 yards wide of its target.

The biggest issue for Tiger IMO is during Majors he is both hitting it wide off the tee AND putting like Westwood.

His putting has been rank rotten for the last umpteen Majors.

I've said it for long enough that his putting is not anywhere near what it used to be other than last Friday where he missed nothing.
