I've just had one of THOSE rounds, I couldn't score, the swing was rubbish, putting, chipping, tee shots all awful! I had such high hopes for today but it all unraveled and I cannot ever remember playing as badly. I came in and booked on for the rest of my lessons. I have a very flat swing. The practice swing is lovely, on plane and just as it should be. On a real swing though I just roll the wrists with no cock whatsoever and this results in a flat plane swing which in turn leads to a big hook when it all goes wrong. Most time I can control it and play with a nice draw but not today. No rhythm or timing so it's .1 back again. Hope you all did better than me today.

If the practice swing is lovely but the real swing is pants, why not drop the practice swing?
Bit like hitting the awesome provisonal ball after you have duffed the first one!

There's the problem!

I'm not saying don't look forward to it, just enjoy it and accept what happens.

And try just relaxing and swinging 'without tension' - like a practice swing with a ball in the way! It is indeed rhythm that makes for a really good swing - whatever the tempo!

Unfortunately I had a day just like you : (

Hoping for CSS to be kind and go up so I make the buffer. 33 points playing not very well but if I can shoot 33 points playing like that, things are rosy in the Hawkeye garden.

I feel your pain hope the lesson sort you out I have been like this for a month and am 0.5 better, well is not better worse off because of it. Weeks on hols now and back for a lesson to try and get patched up for next comp in 3 weeks.

Had a similar day in the stableford. Felt I was fighting the tempo an swing all day and didn't put too make great swings on tee shots and felt I was scrambling scores all day. Fell away over the closing holes and had a miserable 27 points. Was hitting it decent in warm up so no excuses.

Feel your pain also - been fighting off the rise to 15 all year, 30 points today sees me back up.

Finally got the stars aligned so that I could play in a comp. Weather was perfect, had the perfect start also with a birdie on our second hole.

Went on the bogey train for 10 holes then my drive on the 13th hole did a houdino act. Felt good off the face but that was the last I seen of it as neither me or my playing partner saw where it went. Strange incident, it was almost like it evaporated.

Irons are definetely better so thats a positive, but my driver is costing me massively. The Driving range beckons for the next 2 weeks before the next comp.

Was knackered this morning and ran latter than normal. Didn't have my usual time on the range just a few balls in the net, putting and chipping practice. Took me 5 holes to get settled, the damage already done. Played to hcp the rest of the way which is the positive I'm taking! Finished 4 over my hcp. Much like you I was looking forward to the medal today as felt in good shape all week.

Both I & half the members at my club will right now be feeling the OPs pain.

1st round club champs yesterday and only 3 scored sub 80 and they all shot 79, only a couple shot in the 80s, the majority shots over 90 with a few 100+ scores! The course set up is a joke at the moment as in some cases there isn't a first cut its just straight to the 3 feet high stuff, with an average of 4 lost balls per player!

Personally I had my worst ever score in the 3 years I've been playing golf, what makes it even worse is I absolutely striped the ball. I hit the ball the best I've hit it all year but just couldn't do anything with the set up and nor could anyone else.

For example the first 4holes I was hitting the new driver so well the longest iron I hit was a PW yet everyone hit the green and bounced so high off the surface (and I mean bounced a good 12 feet high) through in the garbage that is a few feet past the putting surface and was +4 through 4! So at the 5th thought i'd land it short to run up and the ball plugged as they'd watered the fronts of the greens to make you fly at the pins but hadn't watered the rest of the greens to make it hard for the ball to stop! So what are you meant to do as they are to firm to hold a wedge shot but to soft at the front to bump and run!

Then there was the pins in joke positions the worst being the 9th & 15t! Literally place in the middle of slope that is between lower and upper tier so if your uphill putt doesn't go in it comes back to your feet as happened to my playing partner or if your above the hole and doesn't drop it rolls 30feet past down the slope!

I stood on the 10th tee having shot +11 for 9 holes and even my playing partners said I had yet to hit a poor shot and the highest handicap in my group was 12 and between us we managed 3 pars, 2 of which were mine! I walked off the course at the end having managed a grand total 4 pars and was struggling to count more than 3 shots where I felt I could have done better!

Comical moments where we all just laughed though were at 15th where one of lads I was playing with hit a gap wedge into the centre of the green that bounced so hard it went 25 yrds through the green into the bundu for a lost ball! Then at 18 one lad hit sand iron that did the same thing but bounced 30yards through and hit the clubhouse!

Those 3 guys that did shoot good scores admitted it was only due to good fortune and couple of bits of luck where monster putts went in!

Oh well new day and lets see what pain it causes today!
