I was ok with £55 then £60 as a full day from 7am till 9pm of watching the worlds elite close up plus a well stocked Tented Village was excellent value imo.

However, £80 (£70 if purchased before May 31st) for St Andrews (one of the worst spectator courses) and a diluted tented village with no manufacturers is just a bridge too far for me. As much as I love St Andrews and the Open it will be one practice day and the rest in glorious HD

I know, as an hourly rate, 80 quid for a whole day isn't as horrific as it sounds but once you add in any extras it becomes an expensive day out bearing in mind you can watch most of it on TV.

I might try to get to a venue this year, I've never been to one or seen a pro playing up close, I think Wentworth (BMW) could be my first maiden outing, I think I can get the Saturday & Sunday for £80 all-in!

Way too expensive so I won't be going.

Hoping to make it to the Women's Open at Turnberry though, prices should be much more reasonable and smaller crowds!

I'd recommend the Senior Open at Sunningdale. You can get up close and see some great names from the past. Looking forward to seeing Monty and Langer this year. As has been discussed on a previous thread, Wentworth on the weekend can be a bit manic / a bun fight.

So the game is struggling to attract players and someone decides that £80 is ok for a day. Disgusting.
someones deffo not got there finger on the pulse there.

Compares reasonably well with other major sports events.

How much for the FA Cup Final, an Ashes Test, Centre Court Wimbledon or Silverstone F1 GP.

Why does anyone expect the Open to be cheaper than these?

What do you get for £80?

A full days entertainment as much as 12 or more hours

Up close to the worlds greatest golfers all day.

£80? How much is it ringside at MGM Las Vegas to see Mayweather? How much is it court side for the Wimbledon men's final? How much is a pitch side ticket to the World Cup final?

£80 is expensive but it's far better value than many other top sporting events

I'm sure the prices for the women's was £25 or there abouts for a day at the women's open last year.

Thinking about heading for a day this year if I can. As you say smaller crowds even for the big names.

I can't decide between marshalling or getting a week ticket. £240 for the week is pretty good value I think, so I'll be going for that if I can't commit to the time behind the ropes.

Never mind cup finals even your average premier league ticket for top teams is around £50 so Definately favourable.

£80 will get me to London and back for the FA cup inc pie and pint at inflated prices, and ticket. I can get there and back in the same day and I live in the middle of the country.
it won't get me to scotland for the same amount, in fact no where near so a comparison to a premier league game is way off the mark. If you want the week ticket, then your staying somewhere up north ( unless your sleeping in the car) then your paying a grand plus for the week, and that for the average golfer is excessive. Having read this topic, other tournaments offer far better value for money.

PS season ticket for my club (man city)for an adult starts at £299.
