This new forum is pish

I don't mind it but I'm a bit disappointed in the choice of font and colour scheme. I think its harder to read in the main body text and fields like the OP name , login boxes, look tiny on my machine.

Could we have kept the familiar colours but made all of the other improvements? Would have helped with adjusting to the new layout.

I think that someone got out of the wrong side of bed this morning:eek:

Good point, well made. Maybe if the people who don't like the new forum would give constructive criticism as most posters have, then that would help. But coming and moaning like a schoolgirl after making no real input into the forum other than a few snide insults seems a bit ridiculous to me. Give it a few weeks and I'm sure that we will all be used to the changes. As has been said before, most other forums use this template so there must be something good about it. Personally, I would like to see the "thanks" and "reputation" add ons integrated, but I'm happy to wait and see.

I preferred the previous Forum,it was quicker to navigate between sites, this one seems to take the long way round to where you want to be.

I think that, given a week or 3, almost everyone will have forgotten what the old format was.
I have no preference, they both work(ed) fine for me.

Have to agree, the Smilies are poor - difficult to tell the difference between some.

Maybe I like it because I don't do smilies. I'm too grumpy for those little bundles of fun. Maybe if they had little icons with more energetic gestures then I would use them.

I was going to start a poll. You know the sort of thing...
Do you love it?
Don't mind it?
Are you not bothered?
Hate it it?

Don't know how to do a poll. Does anyone know?

Guys, Any change is strange at first, think you'll always get people that struggle to adapt or just don't like change. I'm not keen on the new one personally but i'm willing to persevere cos the old forum was great and i'm sure given enough time the guys at GM will get it right.

One feature id like to see back is the link to the index that used to be at the bottom of each page.

Now if I have finished reading a post and want to see what else is happening, I have to go all the way up to the top of the page and click on "the Lounge"

Just a bit of a pain

And my member is the same age as the rest of me, its not senior
Fragger

When I consider starting my working life with no calculators then going from pounds shillings and pence to metric then going from tons pounds and ounces to tonnes and grammes then going from yards feet and inches to metres and millimeters the change from the old layout to this one is a piece of cake

This new forum is much better from a modding point of view. Personally I like it, always thought the "old" one felt a bit out dated. If a couple of visual things could be tweaked it would be very good.

See, now posts like this perfectly illustrate why a "like" function would be useful.

I used to like Farley's rusks, but steak and chips or a good ruby is much more appealing now

I enjoyed the old forum but this is an improvement on the former

Thanks for your constuctive feedback

In a few years time you will be liking Farley's rusks again!

Madness, have a look around all other decent forums, they are using full functionality versions of Vbulletin and Xenforo.
I have been in IT 18 years and one thing is inevitable, upgrades. Like it or loath it, in a few weeks/months time you will find the extra features a welcome addition.
We still have the breadcrumbs at the top of the page so you can always navigate back to the top of the present section or back to the main forum index.
Messages, PMs can now be sent whole sale to multiple users now instead of having to send individuals, sent messages are now easier to view compared to the last forum software.
Calendar, now there is a fully usable calendar with birthdays and the ability to add events (this was asked for before and ColinT did come up with an alternative though was only really a temporary solution.
Menus, the menu system offers more control and means less clicking about to do certain features and now includes albums and contact lists which you can build up for messaging etc.
Moderating, this has been a godsend for us, so many times multiple threads have been posted on similar subjects and had to be cut to ribbons just to get them to work, now we can merge, edit and sort these easily.

In a nutshell, I think it offers a far more functional service (FREE) and shows that the GM guys are looking forward to many more years of providing us with a free forum. I for one am grateful as I disliked the old software as it was too clunky. If smilies are your biggest bugbear, I think the forum will survive just fine.

My only problem is iphone performance at the moment, when posting the editor box seems to be very laggy.
