....... More a question on how you've changed your course management during the current dry spell we're having.

Are you following suit as per The Open and taking less club off the tee on longer holes? Or are you adjusting what you lay up to? Or your club selection into greens?

At our course it's quite strange. The fairways are bone hard, the greens are pretty firm too, but aren't fast to putt on. The will hold a ball if hit into correctly but there are some strange bounces out there.

I'll be honest on longer holes I haven't really changed club, more what I hit into a green. Perhaps I should. Our first and tenth holes both pay up hill and have a drainage ditch running across the end, about 75 yards short of the green. Usually I'm a good 50 yards back from theses with driver, but yesterday left my drive on the 1st about 15 yards back of it. Off the 10th I actually hit the ball into the ditch!!!

Usually I wouldn't mind, but I'm generally no where near these. I managed to walk off the hole with bogey, after taking a drop, so no real damage done on my way to 79.

When I got home, out of sheer curiosity, I used Google Earth to get a rough measure of how far it was.

And...

It shouldn't be in play at that distance even for me!!! They were absolutely flush out of the middle of the driver face, but still....

4 wood next week for me

How are you guys finding it? And how are you adjusting your game?

Using 3 wood a lot, but I struggle to keep it down in the wind. 3 hybrid off the tee is also a regular occurrence.

Not being a big hitter of the ball i'm loving it, we have 4 par 4's at my place that are around 450 yards, usually no chance of me hitting them in 2. But for the last month I have been able to reach them all with an iron in hand for my second:)

I took 4i off the tee pretty much all day yesterday, but that was part of my gameplan coming into the round anyway.

Definitely noticed the difference in yardage though when I found myself pin high on a 462 yard par 5 after hitting 4i from tee then 4i from the fairway. On other days I imagine I'd still have had a fairly full wedge left to the green.

I don't usually go for any of our par 5s in two, yesterday I went for two of them, driver hybrid to back fringe on one, driver 3 wood to green on the other, and birdied them both.

I'm loving the extra run!

(Sorry if that's willy waving)

Playing the same game around our course, despite glass fairways and greens. On our par 5 5th, 514yds, I was on in two with a good drive and 5 iron. Keep it dry I say!

Played 18 this afternoon. Millionairre golf so took advantage and played off the plates and hit several clubs of each tee to get a game plan for the club champs next weekend. Depends on how much rain we get this week now and how much it slows the course down. Knocked it round in 8 over with no putts of any length made so quite happy

Hitting my hybrid off the tee more often than not just now, hitting a lot of pitch and runs as well, long may this weather continue.

I played 9 today for the first time in about 7-8 weeks due to a broken neck and only used a 6 iron and went round in 4 over. I was getting about 185 yards with it and in position every time. It made me relise why use a driver on a one of them maybe holes, if I can drive there I will have a good second shot for me just to drive nowhere near it.

My 3 iron is my friend! Even hit a 4 iron a lot off some tees recently.

I have also found a thinned 2h works really REALLY well into the wind on running fairways :D

On a few of the really tight holes I'm hitting 3 wood off the tee - the rough is brutal. A couple of the raised greens have firmed up a bit, so I'm dropping the ball a a yard or two further from the pin.

One of the guys in our swindle is 78yrs old, not long off the tee but very straight. He's took the money 3 out of the last 4 weeks... a lesson for all of us(?).

Its the par 5s that I am enjoying it on, driver then 8/9 iron. Couple of bounces then on the green!

Rain this week tho and as much as i love the hard course it desperately needs water!
