Think you can spell?

Im sure my punctuation and spelling is wrong sometimes,or maybe all the time.
But to be honest i could not give a dam.
Its amazing sometimes what gets on peoples nerves.
All the poverty, murders etc around and people get wound up about have people write, get
a grip.

Errrrr Damn , sorries Pale

I hate the word "gotten", it should have stayed extinct along with the bubonic plague.

Also "Off of" All the time on Radio 1, "The next caller is John off of London" WTF is that all about?

I've acquired a bit of an inferiority complex reading thru' this thread :(...

Far more important issue's to get one's knickers in a twist about I reckon...

Like the fact that the Beeb has made a complete horlicks of it this morning calling Andy Murray a Scot... Surely they should know by now he's a Brit until he lose's ;)...

^^^^ Wot he sed ;)

Does it really matter about grammar and spelling on forum. Bit different if you receive a letter from a company wanting your money or time but not in general discussion.

If I were to send work emails with bad spelling and grammar I'd soon be out of a job.

I find it easier to spell and punctuate properly at all times rather than to turn it on an off.

Fair point and I agree its better to do it right every time. With y post all I really meant is if others e.g myself aren't as good grammatically does it matter in the world of the forum. I know I have grammatical issues but do find in some instances when that's picked on rather than the point made its a little petty.

If someone makes the effort to write as I was taught to write at school, I am more likely to make the effort to read the post.
And to me, it's often a pleasure to read a post that has been carefully written.
When people start writing things like the list below, I just switch off I'm afraid.

'it's a good eat/read/watch'
'a must see'
'my bad'
'thru'
'for free'
'The players arrived ahead of Sunday's game'
'I'm loving this'
etc etc
Just getting old I suppose :(

Some of you need to spend some time in Bristol to see how a completely different English language can be created:

Examples of Bristol to English:

Borrawl Borrow 'Can I borrawl they shoes?'

Brung Brought 'I brung me own.'

Camrawl Camera 'Jew bring a camrawl?'

Cyclepaff Psychopath 'Stay away from ee, ee's a cyclepaff!'

Gawf Golf 'Swanna game a gawf?'

Inchew Aren't you 'Yoom a bit fick inchew.'

Sangwedge Sandwich 'Lessaf more cheese in me sangwedge.'

Windawl Window 'Yer, open them windawls will ee?'

It is petty but if someone says something that annoys you or you think is wrong but you can't be bothered to formulate or type a decent argument or rebuff and they have a spelling mistake , it's a good way to get on their nerves if you were so inclined

I agree that it's a bit petty, and I usually just ignore any mistakes (Of instead of Have is a real tester though). However, if, as some have stated, it's not worth complaining about as it's not the biggest problem in the World, then nobody would ever be able to complain about anything.

Captain pushing in on 1st Tee - Don't worry, it's not the worst that could happen.
Somebody didn't shout fore - Calm down old chap, people in Africa are starving don't you know?
The 4 ball in front were in jeans and football shirts - Chill out fella, people are being oppressed in Syria.

Chortle

This irritates me too. Once i spot a mistake I end up looking for more rather than concentrating on the post. Maybe a little OCD. I probably make some mistakes myself, worst one being a lack of capital letter after a full stop.

That's it exactly. Since when is it petty to have an expectation that things are done correctly? I don't get that fussed on here although if it's a struggle to read will give up. In general though the attitude of it being petty and unimportant encroaches into every day life.
