Things That Gladden The Heart

When I retired, my mate and I enrolled on a 10 week 2hr Indian cookery class. It was excellent. You got recipe in advance and you supplied all ingredients, pans, kitchen tools etc (in a plastic "under the bed" storeage box) and took your creations home.
We stopped for a pint after Session 1. The barmaid slowly sniffed the air and said "You two just had a curry?". We explained just as a bloke came in and said "Someone's left their lights on - CMax".
I popped out, opened the door and was overwhelmed by the smell of curry. Got home, unloaded, wife gone to bed as up at 6am for work - a nurse.
She got home that afternoon and immediately shouted "What the bluddy hell! I stink of curry and everyone on the shift, and patients, has been taking the p*** all day!"
๐Ÿ˜‚
Following week I took a blanket to put inside the box and smother my creation.

Got a letter through this morning saying I needed to renew my driving licence.
Up to the local post office in and out in 5 minutes. All done minimum fuss.
Great service great system ๐Ÿ‘

Not sure to gladden the heart but it made us laugh.

My stepson needed to buy some perspex windows to replace broken ones in his garden shed. He ordered them but when I asked him if they had arrived he said he ordered the wrong size. I thought it odd but left it at that. We went to his house last night and on pressing a little further it turns out he ordered the size in mm rather than cm. So his replacement windows were delivered in an envelope. ๐Ÿ˜‚.
He did tell me he'd got them at a good price.
OK, update on this. It should really be under Random Irritations, but I thought I would continue it here.
I got the correctly sized polycarbonate "glass" and went to fit into my stepsons cabin. As some background, they recently bought this house with a wooden cabin/shed thing at the back. It had been built during Covid and looking at it now I don't think the bloke who did it really knew what he was doing. The original issue was that whilst he had put on three of the six windows correctly in the beading, the other three had been stuck on the outside with sealant and screws. At the time I thought it was odd, but they had all broken and needed replacing. Anyway, after getting the correctly sized panes, I went up to help him fit them (Well, I say help but his missus had taken ill and he had to run errands, so I finished up doing it myself). Only once I started I realised this thing was leaning forwards and sideways and so the window frames were all skewiff. I hadn't noticed it previously and so had to stop and think about it. It was no use trying to straighten the shed as it has been there for years and was just like that. Fortunately I had my jigsaw with me and managed to trim the windows such that they still fitted the frame when cut back. So, what should have been a one hour job, turned into three! However, we did get 3mm panes rather than the 2mm fitted to the other windows and the difference in quality and strength was remarkable.

I've had a random rattle in my car for a while now. It sounds like something behind the dashboard, in the corner, passenger side. Passengers say it is in the same place, drivers side.

Today I was driving home and it was really annoying me. I tried thinking of other places it may be coming from, randomly putting my hand on other sections of the front of the car.

Bingo ๐Ÿฅณ. There is a sunglasses holder in the roof of the car, above the rear view mirror. The rattle was my sunglasses in there. DOH. I can excuse the daftness of that, clearly self inflicted, with the sheer joy of no longer having an irritating rattle whilst I'm driving ๐Ÿ˜Š

Watching one of those home redecoration TV shows where two style experts give a tiered old flat a makeover.

They finish off with something that looks virtually the same style as our first flat in 1971 Surrey.

Same happened in wife's car - her sunglasses in that holder above the rear view mirror!

Did you check to see if a new photo was required?

I had a funny this year when online it said I needed a new photo but when the paper renewal notice came through it said I did not.

I have a little rattle/noise too... but I knew what it was, golf ball rolling around in the rear door pocket. My solution was to stuff a worn golf glove in beside it so it doesn't roll now. Prob won't touch either glove or ball for several months, if ever

The real solution is surely to take the ball out of the rear door pocket is it not? I think you have over engineered that one ๐Ÿ˜‚

I had a similar problem a few years ago.
There was a noise coming from the boot, it sounded just like a golf ball was rolling around in the boot where the spare is.
It turned out to be a broken rear spring (Ford Fiesta). Caused buy continually driving over speed bumps in my local area.

But then I have a loose golf ball in my hand, where's it gonna go! Can't just throw it to the floor hoping it rolls & lodges under rear seat? That isn't a semi permanent solution, at best its sticking plaster and 'fixes' like that is why the world is in the mess it is right now!
:p

My random rattle is the sat nag. Iโ€™ve found the best thing is to put her in the boot. :ROFLMAO:
