Things That Gladden The Heart

Went on a boat trip round the Farne Islands today and spent and hour on Inner Farne. Weather was fantastic. Whole thing was delightful!

See this is where I think I might have an issue. When I hear folk say things like this my very first thought is always, well that's just time I could've spent at the practice ground/short game area

Well I was hitting balls from 5.30am, so when the boat left at 11.00, I was due a break!☺️

Really impressed you can get antibiotics from chemists without seeing a Dr for kids ear ache now

So helpful, walked in, confirmed little one has ear infection and done

Very efficient

Awful decision, and a lazy cop out as a parent to support it. It’s a lazy cop out by a health service that isn’t coping. Spain went away from this several years ago because of the damage self-prescribing antibiotics was causing. It’s been tried, and it’s been proven very wrong.

I suffered for pretty much the first 30 years with ear infections. Spent months without hearing, poor hearing, burst ear drums, operations and a lot of lost school time. I still don’t know all my times tables, and I was a poor reader well into my late teens. My left ear is good enough for hanging my sunglasses on - I’ve educated Mrs H to sit that side… ;)

Seriously though, just go to A&E or a minor ailments/drop-in clinic. Let them have a look in and tell you it’s an infection, or a boil, or a bug that’s climbed in, or or or… I can’t emphasise enough, don’t mess about with your senses, especially hearing & sight.

Guess it’s the difference between ear ache and ear infection

If it’s just an ear ache I think you can now get low level antibiotic ear spray - subscribed by clinical pharmacists

If it’s an ear infection then it’s the normally doc appointment as it will come with potential issues

Think you may have misunderstood the posting. No mention of self prescribing, I suspect the chemist has prescribed the anti biotics.
And using pharmacies in this way is a lot better than people clogging up the rest of the NHS with minor ailments just because they want tablets.

It's not self prescription , we don't have that.

I had to speak to the pharmacist himself and he checks you over and only if they agree do you get it

My daughter has discharge in her ears

Going to them and not a&e is exactly what we need to do to stop overloading the doctors

I'm not talking about walking in and just buying antibiotics

How quickly an irritation can turn to good

In the dentists chair she was saying come back another time (only works 2 days a week and I'm busy both of them for 3 weeks) because the tooth is cracked

Turns out it was just a missed canal in the tooth, so it's been done today . Fully filled. Might need a crown long term but no rush. Finally done with it. Since Easter been having
Treatment

Spot on. I didn't even know was a thing

It saved me calling my heath scheme who would use a private Dr to give her meds. That would have taken a few hours instead I walked in, she saw the pharmacist and he checked her and said she needs them. I didn't say she did he did so as you say not self prescription

Very efficient

I didn’t misunderstand, my post was poorly worded in that respect. I have no problem with pharmacists giving out remedies for some things but, in my opinion, ear ache/ear infection isn’t one of them.

Would I expect someone as intelligent as a brain surgeon would be able to diagnose a faulty boiler?

A pharmacist does years and years of training to become a pharmacist. They know what an ear infection looks like. If it doesn't improve after antibiotics then it's the drs. He can see the difference between a healthy and unhealthy ear.

With the greatest respect your bad parent comment was bang out of order.

We are encouraged to use the pharmacist for minor ailments as they are trained professionals

At my dr's we don't see the actual Dr often. They are kept for important things

Nurses and the pharmacist are who you deal with most of the time

The nurse can prescribe meds for most things

The pharmacist does medication reviews

All experts in their fields and all trained to treat minor ailments.

The overuse of drs for minor things is why the NHS is shot.

Saw my first Swallow of the year today....and rescued it.
Whilst waiting for brekky at the club, it flew in through the open door and proceeded to emulate a bluebottle bashing itself against a window, trying to get out.
Managed to shepherd it into a corner and get hold of it. It weighed nothing and if that's how firmly you're supposed to hold a golf club I'd be letting go every time.
Outside we went and let it go...it even squeaked back at me....
Day made:love:
