The only problem is that .. some nutter will use this to buy fags and alco pops and then neglect a kid .. this will end up on the front page of the Daily Hate .. then everyone will say ‘Govt should do something’ and some posh minister would say ‘plebs need to learn how to cook/breastfeed’ .. the cycle of unintended consequences is almost predictable..

But good work by Iceland
The amount that breastfeeding is pushed in this country is mental, so over-the-top. By all means encourage it, but when we were in hospital with our new born, the midwives almost made you feel worthless if you couldn't keep on top of it. Round the clock breastfeeding, it was insane. My wife (and I'm sure plenty of mothers) couldn't keep up with it, you'd need to be breastfeeding and pumping pretty much constantly. We ended up settling for a hybrid of some breastfeeds and some formula, so that she didn't lose her mind, and our baby would have been underweight without it.

I didn't even know there were regulations to keep formula prices high (I mean, really??). We've usually bought ours from Costco where it tends to be more reasonably priced than other places. But if that's the case, then definitely fair play to Iceland and Richard Walker. Bravo sir.

My MiL is in hospital in Buxton recuperating from a broken hip, and we (Mrs especially) have been travelled the 45mins each way from Chesterfield daily.

As it was a special (i.e.milestone) birthday for me this week my Mrs booked a surprise overnight stay for us in the Buxton Crescent Hotel on Thursday night. What a beautiful building and very sensitively restored and resurrected. Was lovely staying overnight in Buxton after the crowds had gone, and a lovely hotel for a special stay. Very unusually for us we chose to have dinner in the hotel, and though it was a little more than we’d normally pay for dinner the food was splendid, and the waiting staff were brilliant. Loved it.

That’s a hotel I’ve looked at staying in any number of times, but never quite made it. I will do after that glowing review.

Glad you enjoyed your special day and I hope your MiL is soon on the mend.

…and the spa (now incorporated into the hotel though also available for non-residents) was splendid…with lovely indoor and rooftop pools, plus of course the Victorian spa pool - just Buxton water as it comes out of the ground at its constant 27.5degC.

Today‘s technologies can be overwhelming and so often the root cause of many difficulties. But I am just off a YouTube live broadcast of the funeral of my dear Auntie Maggie from her church in Inverness, and full of gratitude that technology made that possible.

I could not make it myself but I was there in church with my cousins and brother in spirit and love, and able to listen and join in the unaccompanied singing of psalms by those attending the Free Presbyterian Church funeral service. If you have never heard that singing it’s worth having a delve and a listen on-line - it is IMO really hauntingly beautiful (and even better when the psalms are sung in Gaelic).

oh technology….👍

What a great run from Ben Patterson 👏👏

Back to the days when we ruled middle distance events...well almost anyhoo.

Check out the chat with Cram, Wightman and Kerr. Interesting stuff. Ingewho didn't speak to Josh afterwards but also Josh wore the same style vest Wightman did deliberately to give him an edge - PTSD for Ingewho :)
