Congratulations on the Board Comp win. Now for the important stuff. What a surreal weekend.
MrsA visited her mum in the care home on Saturday. While she was sorting out some bits at the house, that's in the process of being sold, postie delivered a letter for MiL which MrsA opened when she got back to our house that evening.
The letter was from a bloke in another country claiming to be MiL's son. Nutter/scammer, we obviously assumed.
MiL has dementia, so no point talking to her about it on the phone. MrsA calls her dad, who divorced MiL 25 years ago, on Sunday morning, to ask a few questions.
"Oh ! I thought I'd be dead before this came out," he said.
Turns out MiL and FiL were childhood sweethearts. She got pregnant at 16 and was sent away to have the baby which was immediately given up for adoption. They never spoke about it again, even though they went on to be married for 25 years and have 2 more children together.
We made contact last night and spent an hour on FaceTime with MrsA's new older brother she never knew she had and her new sister-in-law.
And they are delightful.
Our very own "Long Lost Family" live show. Turns out MrsA is actually the middle child, not the eldest, which explains a lot.
And there was I, thinking that my winning a board comp on Saturday would be the highlight of the weekend.
For sure it's not rare. The ancestry on my side is all spread around north Notts and South Yorkshire mining and East Anglia migrant agricultural communities. Dad once said that the kids with double-barrelled surnames weren't posh - it was more because nobody was ever entirely sure who was whose.Congratulations on the Board Comp win. Missis T has always known that her grandfather on her dads side had a son whilst serving in the British army in Italy in the Second World War He had a bit of a dalliance with a young lady whilst in the Naples area. He allegedly was going back to Italy after the war to marry her, but he was killed in an opencast mine in 1947. The year before last Missis T managed to track him down on Facebook, but more importantly she has tracked down his daughter. Missis T has had a few conversations with said daughter over social media and it is our hope one day we have a fly over and see them.
On my side of the family. My cousin sent me a message last year asking “ did I know that our grandad had another child with another woman” . No I didn’t. To be honest Ave not said owt to me dad. How do you start that conversation.
Personally RichA I think this topic is worthy of a thread on its own coz am sure there’s a few forummers have their own stories.

I once saw her when she was in her prime, she walked into the Bowling Green pub in Newark. She was tiny and drop dead naturally gorgeous.Watching BBC Breakfast and an intro about Dollar and Thereza Bazar who is about to tour. I wondered what she'd look like now and she is stunning. Looks like minimal or no work and the natural (with a bit of make-up) beauty of a 68 year old woman.
Judging by how different my brother and I are, character-wise, it's definitely more nature than nurture.
Truck stop 74 services on the M74 in Scotland. Has no one told them you’re supposed to rip motorists off for food and drink when you have a motorway services.
£9.10 for a sausage cob, cheese and onion toastie, cuppa tea and a coffee.
Might even have a pudding.
Probably means bap. What is this "cob" you speak of?
That’s what she said. What is this "cob" you speak of?
..and so plenty of visits to Elstead pending. Looking for a knock there‘s an open invitationHaving retired (for the second time) in Jan this year at the ripe old age of 59, I have closed all by business stuff down and completed my tax return early! (ready for drawing my pension from November)
Good news is that I over paid tax last year and a refund is coming that will more than cover next years golf subs! AND they've that I no longer have to complete tax returns unless circumstances change. Even better!
