Was chatting to our head green keeper yesterday. Apparently, we spend 1300 quid a year on pins and flags, at a combined cost of about 20 each.

we have to replace at least seven rakes every week too.

The greens staff make their own tee markers from chopped up wood, as these all pretty much need replacing every week.

Now the course has a lot of footpaths, giving lots of access, and there are often yobs about in the woods in the evenings. Clearly they nick stuff, and chuck it in the canal.

I had no idea it was so prevalent, it must cost the club a mint.

I used to play a local muni, that suffered much the same problems you speak of.Arrived for a medal one sunday morning to find all the buggies had been stolen, most were left in bunkers and on greens, another was found almost 2 miles away !!!
Thing that used to puzzle me was that the course was at least 4 miles from any built up area, and was surrounded by a river, with only one access point.

Murph, you've played at my gaff, you know how steep the bank is from the 18th green to the clubhouse...

A few years ago, a stolen car was driven up that which them ram raided the pro shop!!!

For those that haven't played my gaff, the hill is steep. Very steep. I've slipped down it a few times... :)

Thieves are very resourceful, if nothing else.

Many moons ago I found the competition money in the trees at our place.
It would still be there now if it wasnt for me as no one else could ever put their ball that far off line!
We also found a video player on one green as a result of a local break in.

Had a break in at the clubhouse too but the low life that carried it out dropped his pay statement behind the bar and was soon apprehended.

That's brilliant!!!

I can just imagine the assailant going through his pre-burglary routine - balaclava, crow bar, black gloves, swag bag! Done. Right, now for some heavy duty breaking and entering. Opps, wait a minute, I'll need my payslip, just in case I need to apply for a credit card whilst I'm in the golf club!

someone seems to have nicked almost all the red and yellow hazard markers from my course. All I can think of is it's a supremely useless gardener doing it for the colour, can't think why anyone would want them otherwise.

Our course is so out in the country that there is no chance of young tearaways or common thieves venturing out from the town or city. What we had stolen was the warning bell from our 4th hole which is a blind drive par 5. It could only have been nicked by someone playing the course - a member of a society booked in on the day it disappeared being the likeliest suspect. He would have to have come equipped with spanners etc..

The pro who taught me was the pro at the local golf course, and they used to have a bay of four nets just behind the first tee for being to have a few practise swings and hit a few balls before their round. He also used them for lessons and such, until that is he dismantled the area after youths kept setting fire to the netting. He went through four sets of nets in a month before he finally gave in and dismantled it all.

They must have been going at some speed to get up that bank!! It really is amazing what lengths some people will go to.

I will never forget that bank having played 36 holes. Never have I enjoyed a beer quite so much after getting up that!!

I played from the middle of that bank on the 36th and last hole of the East Kent meet this year - I have only just recovered! :p :p :p
