We had our monthly medal this morning and after a couple of decent rounds I was feeling quite good about it.

Our 1st hole, 229 par 3 as OOB down the right but I don't think about that because in the 18 months I have been a member I have never gone OOB on that hole. So today I promptly stuck 2 out and Even more promptly 3 stabbed my 3rd ball for a 9.

Second hole I stuck another OOB and ended up with an 8. So 9 over after 2 holes and any chance of a decent score well out of the question.

I did play pretty well after that but a for a couple of loose drives into the knee high clag so it wasn't all bad but in all my life I don't think I've ever used so much of my h'cap up by the 3rd tee.

Anyone beat that for a horror start?

I'd have blanked it out by now :D

Did have a stretch in the middle of a round at Blackmoor 8,5,8,6 which wasn't pretty. (triple, double, quad, double)

I was acting as starter for the Ayrshire Boys Champ at Prestwick and one poor wee sod knocked three on the trot onto the railway line. There were tears.

My regular playing partner [17h'cp] went out in 36 in a recent game. Next game he started 7,6,7,6.8.

Started with a 17 on the first in the 1983 Corby Boys open after knocking many balls into trees left and right. Was delighted to get it round in 110

We had Medal today also....And with some of the changes that im making to the swing i was a little nervous...
Topped my 3 wood off the first tee and hacked my way to the green for a 6...2 over after one..
A well struck 6 iron to our par 3 second and i was 20ft from the pin...Stuck it for a 2 and back to 1 under....

I took a 7 off our par 4 3rd again due to a topped 3 wood into the crap...So that was 4 over after 3 and after that i went Par,par, par bogie par,par to turn 5 over......

Trotting along nicely standing on the 10th tee and i stuck one in the water..Walked off the 10th with an 8.....

So thats 9 of my 15 shots gone with 8 holes left to play......

I then went Par,Par bogie triple,triple....Standing then on the 16th par 5 at 1 over i creamed a drive and hit the green 25 ft from the pin with a hybrid for my 2nd...Looking to get a couple of shots back forcing the eagle i lipped and then knocked in for birdie.
Back to level par with 17 and 18 to play......Took a 4 and a 5 off these for a nett 2 over.....

If only i didnt have the 3 destructive tee shots on 10,14,and 15

I'm still in therapy for starting R.A. with a double followed by another, and another......

I love these threads, such hope for us all.

Best start at mine = 2 under after 4.
Worst start at mine = 9 over after 4.

last medal went triple bogey on first three holes--9 over after three 75% if my 12 handicap allowance lost in three holes. Finished front nine 12 over.

Standing on the 3rd tee I still thought I could get in the buffer. Four pars later I was convinced I could. The bogeys on 7&8 were sloppy but I still thought I could play level par back nine but two poor tee shots and 10 & 11 put paid to that. The thing about our place at the moment is you have to keep it straight, the rough is brutal and my driver was a bit off today which cost me. I still can't look back at the round and say I played badly

I can't remember my worst first hole - although I've played RA twice and haven't got my putter out on the 1st yet..

In a Medal I recall having a triple bogey 7 on the first and still shooting +5 to win.
Long time ago though....

played at hessle today in div 1 open,

started ok ,
got to the 7th all kinds of trouble e4nded up with a 9

8th 150yrd par 3 hole in 1

this game dont make sense at times

Started with a hook OOB, 3 off the tee on a par 3 and holed out for a 5. Went to the turn in 42, that's all the handicap gone. Back in 38, 2 over, for an 8 over total and in the buffer.

I've been +16 after 3 holes before.

Took a 10 on our par 4 first. +6
Took an 11 on the par 5 second. +12
An 8 on the par 4 third left me +16 after 3 holes. I had 9 shots to see me through the remaining 15 holes.

The week after I managed 5 points on the front 9. Came back with 22 - nothing you can do but laugh really.

In our biggest competition of the year, a mate of mine started 8 and 9, to have used up all his shots in the first two holes. He reached the turn in 49, fourteen over par, when the heavens open, thunder and lightening, and the competition was cancelled. Played again three weeks later, he shot a net 65 and won on count back !

Belive me mate the rough at RA is nothing comoared to Tylney. Managed to lose 6 balls and I didn't swing it too bad. There shin high rough list literally five yards off the fairway on most holes all the way down. When you are playing 400 yard par 4's and going for the green, its soul destroying to miss the green by 5 yards and not finding the ball. It felt like a slog all round as we were searching for at least one ball per hole. Its a shame as the course layout is great but the set up is way too penal for the average golfer.

I started lost ball, lost ball, double, double. Fortunately my partner was on fire and the opposition were losing balls on a regular basis so by the time I won the 5th we were 4 up. We were 2 up at the turn and never in any danger. Lost two more balls on 12 and13. The one on 12 was an old fashioned carve and so I've no issue with that one. The one at the next hit the edge of the green kicked left and ran into the thick stuff. I was no more than 12 feet from the flag. How can that be fair? Not knocking it as its the same for everyone but I'd hate to play Tylney with a medal card in my hand. Set up way too hard and it wasn't fun or enjoyable

Today in one of our Board comps I started double, bogey, not a disaster but then on the thrid I topped my second, shanked my third OB and finished the hole by three putting from three feet for a 9 on a par 4. Next hole I shanked my second OB then fatted one into the ditch 50 feet short and was almost pleased to get down for a triple bogey 7. So after 4 holes all my shots were gone.

Plyed decent golf after that though (apart from hitting a drive OB on 6 and missing a 2 foot putt) to play the last 14 holes in 5 over par and finish 5 over par nett and in my buffer after rounding the bad holes down.
