Some questions that have come up over recent weeks....

1)You are playing Winter rules: After picking your ball and cleaning it can you place it on a wormcast that it was sitting near?

2)No winter rules...Your ball is on the fairway and an inch behind your ball there is a pile of worm poo... can you scrape it away with your iron before playing your shot

3)You are on the green and there is worm poo oozing out of the green, can you scrape that away?

4)You came up 10 feet short of the green and elect to putt... can you clear the 4 stacks of worm poo away that are sitting in front of your ball stopping your ball getting to the green at all?

and a non worm poo related one of a similar nature..

5)your ball lands short of the green and spins back a foot, you elect to putt from off the green but your pitch mark is in the way of your line...do you repair it before you putt?

Guessing at these as am accesing site remotely today:

Yes, as long as within 6" and not nearer hole
Yes, as long as you don't press it down to "improve the lie"
Yes
No

Yes....<edit> just re-read this and the ball pitched SHORT of the green so NO!!

Great, I love quizzes.....

1. Yes, if nothing says you can't, then you can.
2. Yes, providing conditions in loose impediment definition are met.
3. ditto
4. ditto
5. No, you would be improving your lie/line of shot.

2-4 are covered by loose impediment which specifically mentions worm casts

If you are off the green and elect to putt and there are 4 or 5 little sticks in your way...you can move them?

What about when you are in the trees and there is several hundred? Can you clear yourself a line for 50yds?

Not being silly but I was in the trees without a shot and there was literally a million old brown holly leaves and sticks blocking a potential route... if I cleared them all away I could have literally putted under the holly tree and onto the green.... and could I have done so without Smiffy moaning?

Fyldewhyte & viscount have it right.

1 is just good luck; 2-4 are covered by loose impediment rules & therefore moveable at any time; 5 is a breach of rule 13 as it's an improvement of your line of play.

You just need to be wary of breaches of etiquette and rules relating to slow play
