Well, the combined stableford with Homer yesterday was the usual disaster.

Homer spends a lot of time apologising in advance before these events but the truth of the matter is whenever I play in pairs event I play like a guy who has never played golf before. Yesterdays debacle started rather unluckily on the first when I lost my ball which went straight down the middle and should have been found about 20 yards short of the green but wasn't. I then 3 stabbed 2 for bogey, scrambled a bogey at 5, picked up before getting to the green at 4, parred 5 (a rare bright spot on the front nine), Went OOB on 6 and hit my second into a ditch for blob number 3. Blobbed 7 before reaching the green, parred 8 and blobbed 9 after hitting only one shot (I probably should have hit a provisional there to be fair). 8 points on the front nine. I set myself a target of level par on the back nine and while it didn't quite materialise, I did only blob one hole, the 11th, but at least I had a putt for a point :D. I then played the last 7 holes in 3 over for a grand total of 24.

It doesn't seem to matter what the format is, I can't turn up for pairs comps

I'll probably rip it up in next weeks medal, it wouldn't be the first time.

My round didn't start well going OB off the first although I was expecting Hawkeye to be able to save the day until his ball mysteriously disappeared without trace. I didn't swing it well and loads of unforced errors especially with my short game. I had swung it well on Saturday for little reward and hoped we'd be ok as a pairing yesterday. It's a rare day when I am the senior scoring partner in our team but in truth neither of us covered ourself in glory. There is another pairs event soon, our Jubilee Cup, which I am a previous winner of. We may both turn up on the same day for this one

To make things better, I have just seen we were disqualified but I have no idea what for. HDID just says "disqualified"

I had a bitter-sweet round this weekend.

Shot 78 - Sweet

Was 1 over for the the back 9 up until 15th. Then dropped 6 shots in the last 4 holes

Highlights included:

PW to 2ft ridding a left-to-right wind.

4 iron from 201 just to short of the green (Raised front).

3 iron out of the screws to just short of the green on a short par 4

I've forgotten the lowlights already :D

Played a 6600yrd Moor Allerton today, a long course with plugging fairways. Shot 32 points which I am very happy with considering I was garbage off the tee. +2 out and then it all went a bit pete tong.

What did you make of the course? We played it last September and I loved it.. 3 great loops of 9.. Very receptive greens but also very fast.. Some real risk/reward holes.. Will definitely be playing it again this year..

Managed two games over the weekend. Sat at Nairn in the roll up, 40MPH wind but nice apart from that. Hit the ball OK and birded the last 4 holes.. which was nice.

Went over to Moray On Sunday with a mate that is still Offly a Pro but hardly playes. Again very windy, they are on full course over there but on mats and drop to the edge of the fairway. had a couple of bad holes at the start but after that played well and came back in 4 under for the back 9 for a two over gross.

Plenty to work on but its coming, same can't be said for my mate, goes to show how the short game suffers after a lay off. He played like a 24 handicap wearing boxing gloves;)

Spent a full 9 hours at the course yesterday, 7o'clock for breakfast followed by 18 holes with the swindle, a quick drink and a bite to eat then a quiet 18 on my Jack Jones, finished off with an hour on the chipping green where I've discovered the latest epiphany to resurrect my short game that will of course cease all effectiveness by the time I get to the first green on Saturday!

Played my first ever Texas Scramble on Saturday. Had a great time, sun was shining, good company and a low pressure format made for a top afternoon. Everybody played some great golf in patches, had a great start with an eagle followed by 2 birdies. We scrambled a few good pars as well and only bogied one hole all round (not bad with handicaps of 13, 14 and 17). We came back with a net 57, 12 under par and were tied for 3rd when we left the club.

Its only the second time I've played it. Love the front 9, a good variety of hole lengths and levels. I played the 9-18 as second 9 last time, we played 19-27 yesterday. I prefer the 1-18 route, the back 9 just doesn't seem to flow as well or feel the same due to being quite flat (but long).
Greens where very green, lush and a bit on the soft side (to be expected) but is in VERY GOOD condition just out of winter.
We are planning on playing it again later in the year after things had dried out.
Would love to be a member but its just too far way (its only 20 ish mile away but takes nigh on an hour to get there)

Just popped round the club to pick up a few clubs ready for range tomorrow and had a look at the results sheet. Turns out our team came 2nd in the yellowball comp on sat, which is just peachy!

However the sunday comp (stableford / medal) was won by 5 points. That's 13 shots under his handicap! Don't know what handicap he was playing off, but 13 under!?!?!
