Looking to get a game in during a trip to The Giant's Causeway and unfortunately the Dunluce is shut due to members comp. Has anyone played The Valley Links, is it pretty good? Any alternatives nearby?

I'm not experienced enough in terms of the game to make a call either way but if I oculd not get Dunluce, I'd be more inclined to play Portstewart or even Castlerock.

Depending how long you are in Belfast the other option would be to travel to newcastle and play Royal County Down.

thumbs up for portstewart and castlerock. two fine golf courses. if you play portstewart then have a bite in the resturant after. its amazing :)

The Valley is very good. Not desperately long, but testing and no push-over. It is a fine links in its own rights and suffers unfairly from being in the shadow of the big course.

Portstewart and Castlerock also very good options.

I've been going over to that area for the past 6 years now and The Valley is a fantastic track in its own right, i think it will cost about £35-40 a round which is great value ,i've played about 15 times if i remember correctly and would play there any day i like it that much, have a look in the main clubhouse at the history of the club, its interesting.

Portstewart Strand and Castlerock are both fine courses in there ownright the front 9 at Portstewart is superb, like nothing you've played before i've played both over 20 times and you have 3 superb courses with in a 12 radius. You'll be about £85 for Portstewart and £70 for Castlerock.

Cheers everyone. I'll be heading out on my own but will give Castlerock and Portstewart a shout to see if they do winter rates as The Valley slots into the budget quite nicely. Might head to Portstewart for food after with my wife as it looks as though Portrush kitchen is closed around the time I will be finishing (7pm).

Steve that's unless you can recommend a nice country pub type place nearby or on the road back to Belfast for a good fish and chips or steak pie given you've spent a lot of time up there!?

Not done country pubs mate but Ramores Wine Bar in Portrush is superb ,your wife will love it the sweet counter is fanatstic eat there at least 3 times during the week when we're there. decent priced and great food, its next to the Harbour Bar in Portrush, hope this helps, a few places in Coleraine are good for food as well there in a retail park. If you need anymore info just ask mate.

Being origninally from NI I'm no doubt biased but the North Antrim coastline is one of most stunning stips of coast I've seen anywhere in the world.

Another vote for castlerock, the first hole really doesnt give you much of an idea of what a great course it is but by the time you get to the third hole it just opens up in front of you with the oob and railway running down the entire length of the course.
Members at our place are lucky in that we have a reduced fee agreement between the two clubs, any time I am up I can play it for 15 quid, fantastic value.

Another vote for Castlerock, love that place.

And try and eat at the Harbour Bar or Ramores wine bar. Best food in the port for only buttons in money terms. Both restaurants are part of the same complex / owners and food is equally amazing.

I am biased though being from that part of world. :)

Thanks again!

Unfortunately Castlerock is not allowing guests at weekends during March so that's out. Restaurants in Port sound excellent do thanks again!
