Yeh but you are looking at it as if you want to hack it round in about 20 over par not like you gotta shoot UNDER par.... the first is a tester? Get real, that green is 8yds deep and slopes drastically left to right. If you want to guarantee a par there then you have to play out to the right (where the hazard is) so that you get a shot up the full length of the green landing it gently into the slope.

If you knob one 200yds off the tee you're facing an almost guaranteed BLOB as it's almost impossible to then land one close.

Dare I go on? I could talk about every hole on the course in the same manner.

How can the 6th be weak? WEAK??? It's a classic risk reward par4, driveable but out of bounds all the way down the left side. Lay up and you are facing a shot over the right hand bunker into a narrow green.... what more do you need? :D

Well done for sorting that lot out TH. What a magnificent beast. OK So it's Saturday morning and I've got some time so after a bit of googling here is the card.

Hole; Yards; Par
1st at St Andrews; 376; 4

IN: 3845: 37
OUT: 3500: 35
TOTAL: 7345: 72

Can't get this to format properly but I hope it's clear. Hope I've got the right yards, apologies for any transcription/typo errors. 18th at Wentworth is new yardage as I couldn't find my old course guide from the HSBC and 17th at Valderamma has been converted to yards from metres.

So standard par 72, but the sss would be about 85 i reckon Also you'd need plenty of balls to play it :D . Wonder what the green fee would be?

:D

Doh :o

Thanks JustOne. I knew there had to be a mistake somewhere as I'm just not that computer literate and it was before my first coffee.

Somehow the 1st at Macrihanish is on my excel sheet but not on the card. Must have accidently deleted it when trying to format the card. It should be the 3rd.

So card should be:

Hole; Yards; Par
1st at St Andrews; 376; 4
17th at St Andrews; 455; 4
1st at Macrihanish; 436; 4
10th at Turnberry; 457; 4
13th at Royal County Down; 444; 4
11th at Augusta; 505; 4
13th at Augusta; 510; 5
8th Red course Georges Hill; 180; 3
17th at Sawgrass; 137; 3
OUT: 3500: 35
17th at Pebble Beach; 208; 3
18th from Pebble Beach; 543; 5
2nd at Portstewart (Strand); 366 4
16th at Carnoustie; 245; 3
18th at Carnoustie; 444; 4
13th at Druids Glen; 491; 4
18th Wentworth (before the changes); 539; 5
17th at Valderama; 536; 5
18th at The Belfy; 473; 4
IN: 3845: 37
OUT: 3500: 35
TOTAL 7345 72

Totals are all correct though (I think :D)

Did you play off the ladies tees? How you can say the 9th is weak I don't know. Most of the time it's into wind and if you manage to reach the green in two you have to get it to stop on the undulating green. Same with the 14th, it's a cracking par five off the backs with a tough green that is very tough for even pros to hit in two due to the shallow green, deep bunkers and valley of sin at the front.

The weakest hole for me is the 12th which only really shows it's teeth when the wind is really blowing (from the left side).

The course is going to get better and better as the trees mature. I do however think they should reinstate the sheer face of the greenside bunker on the 6th. That made the risk/reward even greater.

8th hole on the Kintyre Course at Turnberry, 300-yard par four with second shot down into the bay.

17th at St.Andrews goes without saying as does the 1st at Machrihanish.

Some local ones to me, 17th at Camberley Heath, 9th at Pyrford, 3rd at West Hill.

I didn't say the 9th was "weak"....I said it was "poor" and I was going more from the design side of things rather than the difficulty as I was with all of my comments.
It's tough I'll grant you. But that doesn't make it a "great" hole design wise does it?
:D :D :D
