It was still a banned substance.
Ergo he is a drugs cheat, now and always.

It is possible for someone to be contaminated without their knowledge

It’s like when Alain Baxter was banned using a Vicks inhaler

WADA statement

Wada had felt the independent tribunal should have punished Sinner for strict liability - that he was ultimately responsible for failing the two drugs tests.

However, it also accepted that Sinner "did not intend to cheat", that the drug "did not provide any performance-enhancing benefit" and this happened "without his knowledge as the result of negligence of members of his entourage". On this basis, it was prepared to reach a settlement with Sinner, rather than go to Cas where the outcome would have either been a ban of at least a year or Sinner being cleared.

"This was a case that was a million miles away from doping," Wada's general counsel Ross Wenzel told BBC Sport.”

Agreed. People seem to see that he copped a ban and jump to conclusions, but I really don't believe he knew anything about it and was just unlucky.

Clearly an unbelievable player nonetheless. It looks very much like the next generation is going to be a 'big two' and then and drop to the rest.

Kind of wondering why the drug was banned if there was no performance enhancing benefit......

As with a lot of medicines it will depend on the levels used

Some cold and flu remedies have substances in them which at high levels can be performance enhancing

The list of medicines ( over the counter ) that my wife gets from England hockey is vast

It's crazy to think, with Alcaraz being 22 and already 7 Grand Slams - at the same age, Djokovic only had 1. So is Alcaraz odds-on to beat his record and become the new GOAT? A couple of years back you'd have thought Novak would never be beaten at the top of that list.

Djokovic had to play against peak Federer and Nadal. Alcaraz really only gets stretched by Sinner. He's come in at a very different time

I can’t see anyone getting over 20 slams

Yeah they are young but others will come into it and the level of tennis will take it’s toil on the body

Exactly this. Part of Federer/Nadal/Djoko's greatness is that they all won hatfuls of Grand Slam tournaments, even though very often this meant going through at least one, and sometimes both, of the other 2 in the process.
The insane thing is how long this era of total domination by the Great 3 lasted ... arguably from 2005-2022 which is an utterly bonkersly long time period in a highly physical sport where domination typically lasts 3-4 years at most and injury is such a threat. There was an absurd period from 2005-2012 where only 1 GS didn't fall to them (Del Potro sneaked one in). I feel both Both Murray and Wawrinka should come with * on their record for managing to sneak in 3 GS's within that longer era - almost feels liike those should count double.
