The Short Game

I already posted this on the 'other' thread, but how about these scenarios:

Boom drive onto green on par 4, but as its a driver and the green has a lot of slope, the ball doesn't hold.

Scenario 1 - Amazing short game
Chip in - EAGLE

Scenario 2 - Good short game
Up and down - Birdie

Scenario 3 - Average short game
Chip to 10 feet
Miss first putt
Tap in - Par

Scenario 4 - Crap short game
Blade shot into bunker opposite
Blast out 20 feet from hole
3 putt - DOUBLE BOGEY

To me, it's obvious that to score well you need all parts of your game working well. The best I've scored on my Course is +4 gross. I've done that by driving badly, recovering spectacularly and putting well, and by driving well, approaching well and putting averagely.
If I can get all parts of the game working well then I know I can shoot par. But if one aspect isn't working then it's not going to happen.
Yes, it's great to drive long and approach well, but greens are going to be missed - if the best in the world miss 3 or 4 per round then we're going to double that - and that's wjere you need your short game to turn a chip and 2 putts into a chip'n'putt par.
At the end of the day, all aspects of the game are equally as important as the others, if you can't one of them well you won't score well.
