• We'd like to take this opportunity to wish you a Happy Holidays and a very Merry Christmas from all at Golf Monthly. Thank you for sharing your 2025 with us!

The Seventeenth.....

The thing to bear in mind is that in Fl, it is always very windy, and this makes it alot harder than your average UK par three.

I like the hole, but would fancy nailing it.

The TPC? wish I could watch it, but it is a non event to me, as I don't get Setanta.

I stand by my comments.

Played the ridge with MVP, Parred all 4 par 3's, only one is short and was GIR on every one.

Played Gillingham today, 7 par 3's. 2 Birdies, 5 Pars, Missed one green (210yds) by about 10 yards.

And you're playing off what? In HJS' section of the mag you reckon 27 el bandito!!!

Played to 18 today, taking a voluntary cut in societies to 23 until I get comp cards in at the Ridge once joined.

23???????????????????? shocking!! ;)

I think the 17th is a gimmick but does provide pure sporting theatre and that is what advertisers and sponsors want. I think its a shame a tournament can be won or lost on a par 3 hole but everyone has to play it so its not like its a quirky pin placement they have to adjust to.

Gimmick and thats it.

The green is huge, there is one bunker that is only there out of sympathy really.

So what if it surrounded by water??? Its no different to a links par 3 that is surrounded by knee-deep crap.

So yes, a pointless hole, I know if I was on that tee I would fancy being on the green, no doubts.

Ive played it and it may look huge on the telly but I can assure you that stood on the tee it looks tiny.

To say its doddle or no doubt I would be on the green is quite frankly ridiculous,if it were a doddle why are so many of the best players in the world walking to the drop zone or so relieved to just hit the green.

You really cant believe the intimidation factor on this shot, why because of the water not deep grass.I was very nervous and playing off scr at the time.

For the record I hit a solid shot only slightly pulled that pitched on the green and fell off into the water back left because as you know a pull gains 10 yards of extra distance.
3 off the tee hit the green and 2 putted for a 5.

Dont even get me started on the 18th tee shot, all you can see is water and a thin strip of grass I believe to be called a fairway.

Absolutely right Alchemy, I have watched it often enough and one of the most common problems for the pro's is staying on it, not hitting it, and if they have probs staying on it, then the likes of us h/c golfers staying on it becomes even more remote. I think a lot of us could hit it but I dont think people realise just how difficult staying there is. It needs a good shot with great control or a lot of luck from my observers view, you have played it and confirmed my view. :D

Well done for keeping it on there Alchemy ;)

I wasn't going to mention it, but seeing as Alchemy is showing off, i've played it a few times too.

To be honest I found it pretty easy and not at all daunting and walked off with a birdie on more than one of the attempts.

The only issue I had was when my daughter had been eating sweets at my computer beforehand and my mouse was sticky and I very nearly missed my 3rd click.....

;)
