The Seventeenth.....

I think its a top drawer hole and adds to the drama. Watching Setanta's coverage last night they did a 2 min montage of players faces & body language watching their balls fly and then landing and some of the looks on their faces tell a thousand words!!!

It may only be a 140yd piece of cake like medwayjon (i'd love to see you take it on fella!) describes it but these players do not take it as a given right that they will make it.

Anything could happen and has happened on this hole and its a better tournament for it!

The thing about that hole is anything can happen when the ball is in the air the wind could change direction or get stronger so you could miss the green by 10 yards or fly it all together. Nice one John eating up short par 3's that the words of a big star that :D :D

Its just a water hole with a little more difficulty than most water holes, I think I could hit it often enough but staying on it is the question for me?

For a hole that became a water hole by accident it is certainly a challenge but also a little gimmick.

I would be happy to play a hole like that on a regular basis, dont know how often I would make it and stay on, but that would be the challenge for me. ;)

A course near me, St. Marys near Bridgend, has a par 3 green almost completely surrounded by a bunker. I've only played it 3 times, each time I've plugged into the bunker, hitting either short or long.

It's the 10th : http://www.stmaryshotel.com/18%20Hole%20Score%20Card.pdf

our 8th/17th is the same its an island bunker save for a 6 feet path onto the green, i visit the bunker frequntly

That said the only time i am able to hit a pitching wedge like Tiger is when i try and hit this green!!

Gimmick and thats it.

The green is huge, there is one bunker that is only there out of sympathy really.

So what if it surrounded by water??? Its no different to a links par 3 that is surrounded by knee-deep crap.

So yes, a pointless hole, I know if I was on that tee I would fancy being on the green, no doubts.

Ive played it and it may look huge on the telly but I can assure you that stood on the tee it looks tiny.

To say its doddle or no doubt I would be on the green is quite frankly ridiculous,if it were a doddle why are so many of the best players in the world walking to the drop zone or so relieved to just hit the green.

You really cant believe the intimidation factor on this shot, why because of the water not deep grass.I was very nervous and playing off scr at the time.

For the record I hit a solid shot only slightly pulled that pitched on the green and fell off into the water back left because as you know a pull gains 10 yards of extra distance.
3 off the tee hit the green and 2 putted for a 5.

Dont even get me started on the 18th tee shot, all you can see is water and a thin strip of grass I believe to be called a fairway.

I haven't seen much coverage of this years event but I would imagine that the fringe is pretty short if not shaved, so anything marginally out would be costly.
