The R&A has announced that The 155th Open will be played at St Andrews from 11-18 July 2027.

It’s links courses all the way and then it’s ones that are at the required standard and infrastructure

Plenty of other majors on the other type of courses
Huh? Yeah, I get the links fixation. Are the standard rotation of courses the only ones that have "the standard and infrastructure"?....I don't know....but I would tend to doubt it just because.......

So....you didn't read the part that I said I don't know?.....just looking for another fight are we?

No fight - just wondering if you could think of other links courses outside the ones on the rota

This is the current bunch

The Old Course
Troon
Carnoustie
Muirfield
Hoylake
Royal St Georges
Royal Portrush
Royal Birkdale
Royal Lytham St Annes

I’m hoping they add Royal Porthcawl to the list after doing some work

And think they may end up going to Portmarnock

I keep thinking about the great response to Portrush. Then I think, why wouldn't you want to go back to the same place every year if it was so great. Then people would complain about playing at the same place every year. And then I say.......Masters.

For me it just about works for The Masters

Because it’s Augusta

But I have my own “issues” with the Masters

For me....the Masters is a horrible "event". If someone offered me a free ticket to watch or play...I'd turn it down. I get that some people love it.....but then again some people like bull fighting.

About 10 is the perfect amount.

It really is time that it went back to Muirfield. I think a lot of the pros think it is the best course.

Have the R&A been to check out porthcawl?

There have been a number of visits to Portcawl over the years and changes put in place - they have hosted the Seniors and Women’s there

There needs to be one in Wales imo

And I think they will have one in Portmarnock as well to rotate with Portrush there

Disappointing. Once in 10 years or so would be enough for the novelty and history value. It just can't handle modern golf by the worlds best anymore. The Open should be above going to a course just because they always have. The mythmaking about its hallowed ground being worthy of a major is wearing very thin. It is flying on vapours at this stage, infrastructure or not.

Yep, I don't know how many things are done over and over again because "that's the way we've always done it". That's not a good reason to do it.

I love watching the Open at St Andrews both on TV and at the course. Thought the Women's Open there last year was superb.
Maybe they should be a bit more traditional and add Musselburgh back onto the rota .

I’ll still go but definitely overdoing it a bit. Takes the special feeling away a little. I’d say once every 10 year would be best
