The Point about Medals

Guy did it at the turn yesterday after nine holes........."I've got you down for 43" I say........"20 points" he says......."no....43" I reiterate....".it's a medal"......."oh OK, ....I make you 18 points"............"no .....39", I reply exasperated shaking my head......

He goes on...." I thought it was Stableford?" .......... "No, it's called the weekly medal....has been for over 4 years".

This is the same guy I played with last week with his mate, they were both in a buggy swapping cards on the 1st tee........" Are you in the medal" I asked them......."yes" was the reply...........

"You can't play the medal in a buggy".............." But we've already entered it".................. "Tough...... You can't play in the medal"

So now he's peed off at me as if I made the rule :o........ I just wonder how many times they've played a comp before in a buggy........

You can't make this stuff up.....

you have a local rule that bans buggies in comps?

What about one of those remote control trolley things? aren't they also cheating just like long putters? ;););)

We have one Stableford comp each season, usually late August as a bit of fun. The rest of the season we play real golf ;)

That's exactly what I thought it was too.

Maybe Im wrong, think its either local rule or condition of competition required rather than a rule of golf that theyre not allowed. Pretty sure they allow them at our place (and have a previous courses too) but that doesnt mean mucyh in the scheme of things. Hopefully one of the rules experts will inform us soon

Edit:
Seems they are allowed unless prohibited in the conditions of the competition (which I expect they are at yours but not at ours)

I thought that they weren't allowed on the basis that someone might want one but there may not be enough to go around for all players so some will have an advantage - rather like a scratch golfer playing a course the day before ;)
