hello all
I have been reading everyone's comments/queries/gripes with the new forum with interest and it's been (and will continue to be) very useful to have feedback on issues you are having.
I'm sorry I havent been as on here trying to answer queries as often as I'd like - dealdines, man flu, Centenary Society Grand final etc - but I hope to able to dedicate more time to helping everyone through the transition from now on.
I do appreciate it's taking time for everyone (me included) to learn their way around but I promise within a few weeks you will get to grips with the new forum.
In the meantime the more specific the feedback the more likley we are to be able to find a solution and I believe there will be a solution to the vast vast majority of issues forumers are having.
We have had a meeting with our technical team this afternoon and been through a lot of the queries you have been posting.
The good news is that it transpires most things can be adjusted in the admin settings (the 'back end' for want of a better phrase) to which the GM staff and moderators have access to. However the 'back end' is all new to us so we are taking a while to find all the setting and options but we'll get there eventually
Rather stupidly the deafult settings have mean't things like it was easier for spammers to get on - we have now I hope cut that off - and the 4 picture and 10 character posting limit which have I think both been changed. There's also options to add custom smilies, reputation ratings for users and all sort of other fancy stuff
However the ability to do fancy stuff is a long way down the list of reasons why why we moved to the new forum software. The main reasons were becuase this is a lot faster, more stable, less prone to freezes and crashes and ultimately more user-friendly. For some it might not seem like that now but once again I promise it will be!
I hope you can appreciate that having spent development time and money on making the switch we can't and won't be going back to the old forum software.
As I say keep posting the queries and questions (either here, on the feedback forum or by emailing me direct - address below) and big thanks to those forumers who have picked it up quickly and who are been helping those who are taking longer to get to grips with it.
Thanks
