The opinion of the outside world is that golf clubs are full of middle aged people doing staid & middle of the road jobs - lawyers, doctors, accountants - that sort of thing. (Apologies if you are indeed one of those - I'm only paraphrasing outside opinion).

Ok, some of us may be like that but, on the other hand, we know that golf clubs are a panoply of people who do a vast array of interesting, possibly even exciting, jobs. For instance, I just found out that a guy i know at the club is a forensic scientist, specialising in violent crime. (Silent Witness anyone?). Another chap I play with from time to time is a consulting engineer working on film sets - designing & building sets ensuring they stay up (or indeed, fall down) as required by the plot.

So, what is the most interesting or bizarre job done by someone at your place ?

Absolutely no idea not been there long enough yet, but at the club I was a junior at we had.

A professional stuntman that had worked on past 007 Movies, a couple of Pro footballers nothing to weird or wonderful sadly

At a previous club; one of the aerodynamics engineers for an F1 team based down near Silverstone. Apparently, the boring bit is the wind tunnel. The exciting bit is down at the track with the drivers, tweaking for those extra few 0.0001secs.

We have a marine camp close to us so a few SBS guys. Don't see them very often although I'm sure I saw one of them in the bushes behind the 9th green the other week ;)

Got a European tour caddy. Not sure of his name but folk talk about him.
Another guy who worked for the PGA. He’s bought a few tour players to play in his little group. Last one I saw was Brett rumford on a Saturday afternoon this year with another player.

The most interesting ones I know of are a football coach and a guy who used to be a golf commentator for Eurosport (I think he is in retirement now). Oh, and an ex-pilot with almost 40 years experience in commercial air travel. He is a good storyteller.

Guy at our club is a rockstar.

His band have had a few hits in the last 10 years or so.

I won't name him as he was modest enough not to overstate his 'job' when I met him and maybe the golf doesn't fit with his rockstar image.

'I'm a singer in a band' was his answer.

We have a lot of retired policemen at my club. One of them was a dog handler and has a very funny story about when his dog grabbed a rapist by the crotch. At hospital they couldn't find one of the guy's testicles and the assumption is that the dog ate it! There's karma for you.

Had to google some bands from Glasgow. I think we can take Franz Ferdinands singer of the list straight away.

Guy at my place is head of production engineering for a F1 team. He was telling me that he his team have meetings where they examine massively blown-up photos of the opposition cars and try to work out what that twist or that slot in the car body is doing for the aerodynamics etc.

We also have a retired ITN News Senior Foreign Correspondent - and his stories from being at the front at hair-raising.

As it happens I have tucked under my belt 12yrs as a missile and aircraft guidance, control and navigation systems engineer. By far the most interesting job I have done and otehrs seem to find it interesting.

But one of the most interesting I've come across is the mate of one of the forum members - he was a bit of a hero of mine when I was a lad and it was magic meeting him and playing golf with him.
