The Masters... Your Views

freddie - I'm aware of the intricacies of Business & Sponsorships.

JustOne: I dont expect a smile after he misses, - perhaps a quizzical rueful look as everyone else manages to do, without looking so pathetically 'hard-done to'.

Robobum: If I have an unhealthy fixation with disliking TW, its because of his actions/inactions which are there for all to see.
However, your own fixation with attempting to belittle my posts is rather more unhealthy perhaps.........

Chris, I sarcastically comment on your hate filled posts about him because I find it amusing that any intelligent, grown man can get so heated about a person he has never met who earns a living from hitting a white ball around a field.

Who's heated ? Certainly not me.

"Hate filled " - hardly, although I can do that when pushed.

Until he changes his demeanor and starts acting like I would expect someone in his position to,..... I,...... and many others, will continue to dislike the guy.

get over it ?

Exactley although I beleive it was his announced absence rather than his behavior that led to them dropping him especially after his long absence the previous season due to injury.

The stuff about changing behaviour was just part of his fake insincere press campaign and has simply been exposed as another lie more quickly than we would have expected.

I'm not sure about that, there probably was an element of sincerity in the intent to change behaviour, after all the psychotherapists will have been pushing anger management at him, among a whole host of other ideas. But, he hasn't been in the firing line until this weekend, so no great surprise it hasn't taken. tbh, I'm not sure he can change that much and still remain Tiger.

(and I'm not a Tiger idolator)

Wise words and I entirely agree.

As for Woods behaviour, I thought it was usual poor mix of petulance, spitting and looking on the verge of tears as soon as anything wasn't going absolutely perfectly for him.
And in the post round interview, his lack of grace was poor but what else would you expect?

Woods aside, the Masters has been a terrific tournament. The golf was sparkling, especially over the weekend with some terrific play, notably from Westwood, Kim, Couples and obviously Mickleson. The second to the 13th was a take your breath away kind of shot, especially given the circumstances.

The BBC coverage should also be applauded for not turning the week in to the TW show. The lack of Lineker was very welcome too and I was delighted not to have to sit through a behind the scenes look at how great the BBC is at coverage etc although I suspect that or something equally pointless will return for the Open. In commentary, Alliss was peerless and Ken Brown was superb too. His quip that a flop shot landed next to the pin like a bag of sugar was lovely! Wayne Grady was good too. Sam Torrance wound me up though. Every time he discussed Woods it was though he was about to blow his beans - quite OTT.

All in all, a terrific 4 days and like other posters, I can't wait for the Open.

Snelly.

I enjoyed the coverage on BBC2 and BBC1 although sometime the advert breaks meant you missed some live coverage.
The course looked in excelent condition and the greens like billard tables.
To see the ammount of control that the players could gain from the receptiveness was unbelieveable.
In all fairness the best player won but one could not help giving support to Westwood.
As for Tiger the less said the better, his ego took one heck of a dunt, but maybe he will learn to control his outbursts with a further fine for them.
What about the amature Mat from italy, 16 and playing like a true proffesional. He shall be one to watch in the future.

/me is chuckling.

Funny how so many golfing threads here turn into a "Tiger - Love Him or Hate Him" thread. This is meant to be about the Masters, and while Tiger played some great and some crap (for him) shots, I was far more impressed with many of the other players.

What never ceases to amaze me is how far Freddy Couples hits his drives. I watched him hardly try as he carried that bunker, (back end of which was 310 yards from the tee!). One or two holes later he splits the fairway and rolls it to the bottom of a slope. On that same hole Tiger appears to give it his all and comes up about 40 or 50 yards short of where Freddy put his drive. Superb.

I think it was great to see Woods back and nearly pull off a miracle return despite hitting it all over the Augusta estate. Shame that Westwood got pipped without ever really doing too much wrong. Poulter had a bad day at the wrong time and went to hard for it yesterday but that is his way and he'll do what he believes is right. Great to see Freddie rolling back the years and Kim nearly came up on the rails to snatch it away. I think though ultimately the right guy won. Good to see Mickleson back to form after a troubled year for him and his emotions afterwards showed how much it meant.

I thought the BBC presentation was a step up from their usual banal offering and how much that was to do with Lineker I'm not sure. Ken's little pieces were great as always and give you a better understanding of the challenges players face. Four wonderful days and the appetite is whetted for the next major

It was a great watch. It's not one of my favourite majors, but this time round I was glued to it. Tom Watson and Freddie Couples were brilliant, Mickleson was phenominal, feel sorry for Lee, but he was beaten in my eyes, he didnt lose it.

The "major" disappointment for me is that Kaymer, Harrington, Casey, McIlroy, MacDowell, Donald, Stenson, Oliver Wilson, Ross Fisher, Quiros ALL missed the cut. Ryder Cup........we got nooooo chance

I really enjoyed it, thought the tournament was excellent. Was very disappointed for westwood. Matteo Manassero looks like he could be excellent, lets just hope the 'he's the next tiger' people leave him alone!!

Love watching ken browns little pieces of ken on the course, was he that good when he played ?Great entertainment.

Too blimmin right he was !!

He was stunning round the green, came 4th in the Order of merit in the late '70s and got banned/kicked out of the 1981 Ryder Cup team for a minor misdemeanor ( I forget exactly why ) and the Europeans went on to suffer a record defeat.

If he'd have played we would have romped it - honest.

True.

This Masters wasn't all about Tiger, and it's sad that by concentrating on him, some people are ignoring the contribution played by other golfers.

Mickleson scored 5 under to come from second to take it comfortably. I don't think Tiger has ever done that.

Mickleson didn't drop a shot during the final round.

Mickleson took time out after he finish to hug his wife and family. Tiger definitely didn't do that.

A few of stats I found interesting :

Mickleson consistantly hit the longest drives of anyone in the top 10 - Averaging 297 yards.

Westwood hit 80% of greens in regulation.

Freddy hit 80% of fairways, whilst averageing 287 yards. But he only hit 69% GIR.

Tom Watson hit 84% of fairways at 277 yards avg.

Stunning numbers.

But it's not all about numbers. The memory that will stick with me was the picture of Phil hugging his wife and family, whilst the tears flowed. That's where he gets his strength.
