Hi All

Been a while since i have been on here. Golf hasn't been at the front of my priorites, with my 4 year old being diagnosed with leukaemia around The Masters, but with a few games coming up and watching the us open (Wasn't Merion a beast??!?!) it's got the juices flowing again.

i have only played twice this year, and while having a clear out in the garage, i come across a bag of clubs i had put, for some reason , in the roof.

while the majority of it was Hippo and old school Progen tat, there were a couple of drivers i had forgotten about.

*Mizuno MP001 -- 9 Degree with a Jordan "Gas Injected Thermoplastic" Shaft in it (Remember them!!)
*Taylor Made XR-03 -- 9.5 Degree with a Grafaloy Blue Stiff

Instantly , I remembered what a beast the XR-03 was and without doubt the longest thing i have ever hit. The Highest COR they made on a 410cc head. I am playing a 36 hole invitational with the father in law on Saturday and its going in the bag , although i can't remember the last time i hit it!! (not much room up the 1st either :D)

So my Question, What is the LONGEST DRIVER you have ever hit (and im talking standard set up, none of this 48" rubbish)

Rich

Sorry to hear about your kid. Hope the prognosis is positive. A word of warning though, check that the driver isn't on the non-confirming list. I use to have a Cally Steelhead plus which seemed to go forever. Was quite straight from memory too. No idea why I got rid!

I seem to remember that the XR-03 was one of the TaylorMade drivers which was declared non-conforming - one of our members had to get rid.

Hi. Hoping we caught it early enough as initial treatment is going well. Thanks for asking :)

The XR-03 is well and Truly banned! it has a higher COR as the Banned R500 Series drivers had. But as i am not a member anywhere (i am using my last official hcp as a guide) and the format is Foursomes AM & BB Stableford PM (so therefore a non qualifer), i'll chance it! , but take the nike just in case i get a fuddy duddy!!!

The High COR Ban was pathetic in a way. Only a handful Of Pro's took advantage of it, but in general with the head speed the top guys created, it span far too much and found them hitting it higher thus losing a bit of distance. It really was aimed at the mid-high handicappers or slow swing speed golfers to help get the ball airborne and with some carry, which i really don't think was that bigger deal.

Yep. Definitely non-conforming! The one I used to use - an 8.5* - is being used as a paperweight.

If it's a 'friendly', no problem; if competition, it's dodgy!

Beast of a shaft though!

Longest (consistent) Driver is current one,

I don't think there is a better shaft than the "Blue" . Low Kick and Torque , even in the Regular Flex, Although the original UST Proforce 65 was a beast too.

If i was playing in a qualifying event or even a pairs event which required me being a member of a club, i completely agree and the club would be used for friendlies only, but as it isn't required for this event and due to lack of golf (if i play anywhere near 3 then i will work in my speedo's next week!:o) i can't see it being a problem (i think lol)

Alvaro Quiros uses X-Flex Blues.

Was testing/using the 'new' version just before PGA - white with blue writing! :D

Indeed PF65 was another 'simple' stick. I had an X in a TM R580 (now non-conforming) and an S in the TM 360 (conforming), both great clubs!

Ah...memories!

Choosing a shaft back in the day was a straightforward process, now you have interchangable shafts, but i bet the kids of today don't realise this is not new ground for Golf.....

....Anyone Remember Burrows Golf and the "MacSphere" Driver with "Interchangeable" Shafts . had a demo day back in 2002 and no one bought the idea. How times have changed....(im only 30 and i sound like im heading to the Seniors Tour lol)

Oh yes! I know the guy who bought the last 300 or so in the UK - for about £1k total!

He'd also attended the PGA Show where they were introduced with great hype a year or so earlier.

Sorry to hear about your lil one mate. All the best!

If you ever fancy a round. There are a few of us in your neck of the woods.

Hi, no idea about the drivers but just wanted to wish you and your little one all the best, as a dad myself something like that has to be one of my worst nightmares. Wishing him/her a speedy and full recovery.

I used to use a 'BangGolf' Bangomatic 9 Deg with a stiff Harrison Striper shaft, It held the record for the longest driver on the US Long Drive Championships. I think it is still lurking in the back of my garage somewhere, it really is a beast. Thinking about it I may did it out and give it a try again.

Have no idea about the longest drivers either but wanted to say all the best to your little'un too, can imagine having to go through this.

Really hope a full and speedy recovery is forthcoming.
