So had a lesson today, asked me to hit shots with 7 iron then 5 iron, 4 wood and driver

the usual fade in the shorter clubs and fade/slice with driver.

The good was I was getting good contact on every shot, the bad was the constant fade and the ugly... my posture at address!!!

I didnt realise how hunched over I was. This is the cause for me getting trapped and on the video I saw how much over the top my downswing is... not good at all.

Anyhow we sorted my posture which had my spine slightly straighter, sorted my swing path (the spine alignment made it much easier to swing on an in to out path) and I couldnt believe the difference immediately, drawing all shots or straight down the middle but even better I was getting 150yds with my 7 iron on a 3/4 swing rolling out to 160! My 5 iron was the same, had the odd block and the odd hook but the difference in distance and ease of swing was simply 100% better.

Anyway, I have 3 weeks now of 5 & 7 iron up the range getting this new stance and swing ingrained, Sundays medal may well be a disaster :D

I went to the course and did some short game practice but also went on 1 of our par 3's, 135yds and hit easy 3/4 swing 9 irons... 4 out of 5 within 12 foot, all a nice draw and 1 just off the green. I did try 4 wood and driver on a par 4 but lets just say I am not ready for them yet :)

Good stuff Gibbo! I will never forgot the horror of viewing my swing in slo-mo during my first lesson! A sobering experience eh? Glad to see the lesson helped, good luck for your medal.

haha, I wish Ethan.

Bob, just by altering the stance and posture and explaining the club path and how the arms and body interact. Was half easy swings at 1st then upto 3/4 swings. He explained its all in the practice swing so it was a case of take 1 or 2, feel the path then address the ball and do the same.

I probably havent really explained it too well but it sort of covers it :)

Well done. All about putting the work in now and getting it ingrained. I had a lesson last Thursday and a practice session on the Friday. Went out in the roll up on Saturday and lets just say 25 points didn't fill me with confidence. Went out in the medal just trying to work on what I'd been shown and getting it right on the course and came 2nd in the division on countback having managed to chuck a double and treble bogey in there for good measure

Nice one - from experience 99% of my poor play comes from the set up. Get that right and you are cooking (well your atually playing decent golf but you get my drift!).

Jason Powell. found a little info about him online, he took over from my old teaching pro who has decided to try and be a touring pro. Founbd him very easy to get on with tbh.

good to hear lad! had a wet and windy 18 tonight. rushing to the 1st tee was not a good way to start! wind changed direction a few times tonight which made it difficult. greens are in a bad way again. bobbles and furry. boo!

I cant hit the driver or 4 wood for toffee. Leaving them out of the bag for Sunday and putting the 3 iron back in!!!

I love it when a 28h/capper puts the 3-iron back in their bag!... is that for those 260yd stinger tee shots? or the 220yd carry over trouble to land within 8ft?

at the next meet g1bbo, sell you soul and bang a 3wood down the middle like that. that'll teach them ;)

actually I have always hit it ok off the tee, just cant hit it off the deck :(

I figured as my 'new' swing is only at the 3/4 backswing stage I may aswell just use irons and try to play boring golf tee to green and not worry about smashing driver in the clag up the right ;)

lob wedge is out aswell so that will be 12 clubs only!!!

Try not smashing it..... I bet it can still outhit your 3-iron. 4-wood sounds like an even better option as it's playable off the deck.

you know what I mean, git ;)

nah the woods just aint having it. I am off to the range & course in a bit - proper practise from now on. Can;t be turning upto forum meets as the crappest player in future :blah::blah:
