The golfing gods..............

Not a ban as such but I do think their should be a price cap, for me I dont care where in the UK you play but no round is worth £100-£150, just because John on £90k a year can afford to play Kingsbarns (* or insert top UK course) off a 22 hc but John on £18k a year can't afford it but is off a 4 hc does he deserve less of a chance to play?

Appreciate what your saying but in a free Market economy the price charged is dictated by what people will pay many of the high priced courses don't have problem filling slots or the would reduce prices.

Trolleys of any kind, if you can swing a club and prop up the bar afterwards, you can walk leisurely round a course carrying a light bag.

brendy, we dont agree on much but that right there is one of the best statements made. there are without doubt exceptions to the rule, a prime example is a guy at our club who has a wooden leg and wonky hip, but even a trolley doesnt help so he has resided to a buggy. my opinion is as a sport it should be physically demanding to a degree, if you cant carry then unless its because of a multitude of medical conditions its just being lazy. Spot on brendy:thup:

the others....

GPS/Scopes, id love to see them band, but likewise if courses dont measure yardages correctly then how can we live without them. A local course to me within the top 50 recent listings has one of their 150 markers atleast 20 yards out... at 128 i think. its this lazy half arsed effort that has seen the success of gps/scopes.

Course abuse:
id like to see a 1 shot penaulty called by playing partners fo failing to repair a pitch mark, rake a bunker, replace a divot or dropping rubbish. ok we know the divots get overturned by birds searching for worms, but if their replaced immediately, they would bond with the ground alot quicker than if a following group replaced 4/5/6 hours later. If you could call a 1 stroke penaulty and watch how the conditions of courses improve,.

Of the objects, devices and bit of equipment listed above, I wouldn't ban any of them. None have proved to me that they offer unfair advantage at amateur level, so each to their own. Freedom wins over prohibition every time in my world.

Most of the things that I agree with above are types of behaviour that should be heavily penalised with strokes (on the scorecard, not with the birch) or course bans for persistent offenders

I know that buddy, im spoiled for choice with top courses all close by but many pander to the rich travelling americans and price themselves out for the average Joe. The PGA centenary at Gleneagles for example is £160 in peak season (as are the other 2) and TBH it's at least £100 over priced as it is probably worth £60 max (as are the others) and even at that im generous. It's the 3rd best course there.

Sounds like there milking the Ryder cup cash cow already!
Unfortunately money talks these days and those with lots of it get opportunities many of us will never have. Seen a comp a members only invite loch lomond but it's £400!!

1. Slow Play
2. Pitch marks, replacing divots, raking bunkers (Respecting the course)
3. Change the groove ruling back to how it was

Not to fussed about the broom and belly putters as i beleive you still have to put the ball in the hole.

The groove ruling, for me, shouldn't really come into play for the amateur game as, quite frankly, we don't have the control that the professionals do.

1) Anchoring of any club
2) Proper pace of play guidelines with strict penalties in the pro game (until they are regularly sub 4 hrs a round) which should then start to filter into the amateur game
3) Internal OOB - just an excuse for poor course design, if you have the problem then plant some more trees

Wow, some angry people on here, nice one for letting them vent bob.

The ones that have shocked me are "get in the hole", while I don`t get to shout it alot and by shout I mean say as I try not to shout unless its FOUR RIGHT!!! I often tell my ball to get tight or get down... are we putting that down as the same thing? I think you have to TALK to your ball.

Smoking.... seriously, it gets up your nose that people smoke?... Ummm we are outside doing what we love and relaxing!!!

Lines on balls is an odd one to me as even if it were banned you could use the makers name. I have no issues with technology, its the same for everyone so its fair and I don't think the spot is spoiled in any way because of it. Skilled players shine through any large headed driver, hybrid or long putter.

Sooo... My first one is going to be miserable stroppie gits who moan too much!! YOUR HERE FOR A GOOD TIME!!!

The one most of you have said, people who don`t respect the course, if you look after it, it will look after you.

I would add a rule that you cannot come upto a tee box until the group ahead have finished driving, I hate being pushed along or stalked, I move fast, I don`t stalk other groups, be respectful of others trying to enjoy there game.

Honestly, I would not change a thing, I love the game and I like where it is going, all be it rather slowly.

Those metal archs that surround bunkers. Are they really just there to stop idiots driving the buggy into bunkers? If so, put the now redundant archs around the fools who might drive into the bunker and highlight them to everyone!

If there is a valid reason for them being there which I have overlooked please advise.

Also internal O.O.Bs is just stupid!!

Oh yeah and Belly putters or any long putter!

alex, be carefull that fence your sitting on doesnt break!

Hmm I gave my three and ranted about some others choices, I think I would rather be called out about the size of my penis than be labeled a fence sitter.... My last comment was just to say that I think in the main we are in a good place....

Fance sitter.... tsssss:eek:

I can't think of 3 so I'll only take 2;

1- full handicap singles matchplay. It should be 3/4!! I've read the arguments for full, I see the sketchy evidence behind it, but it leaves a bitter taste giving 19 shots, being 4 up after 7 and losing 3&1

2- general golfing related pomposity; this includes making vistors play off the yellow tees, whilst members can play off the whites. I've paid my green fee I don't need someone running over 3 fairways to tell me I'm off the wrong tees!! dressing golfing opinion up as fact !

(not sure how this could be outlawed) !!

I'm not going to argue for or against it, but I have to give 21 shots in the 1st round of our Summer knockout and I'm quite looking forward to it.

21 shots !!:D good luck. let us know how you get on. I crumbled like a soggy digestive when he started making pars:confused:

Internal out of bounds. Hate them with a passion. If places like the Old Course which is basically crammed into a limited space can manage then so can other courses

Poorly kept bunkers with litte sand or loads of stones - its part of the greenkeeping staff's job to maintain these. Why are many courses allowed to have their bunkers in such poor condition (including some supposedly decent places).

Belly putters. Anchoring a putter isn't making a stroke. Simple. The sooner they go the better.

1) Committees, especially if you have more than 1 of them at your club

2) People who think they should play through (and get annoyed about it) when the people in front aren't playing slowly...they are just being held up too!!!!

3) Crap courses... it's expensive and courses should be both exciting to play and well kept... not tees that aren't flat, mats, greenms that aren't cut or aren't rolled...etc etc, some courses can't even supply bins or fill up the ball washers!

1) Shorts. I have no desire to see fish belly white, varicose veiny pins on or off the course no matter how comfy they make the wearer. ( And that goes for men as well ! )

2) " Trainer like " golf shoes. You are not playing basketball or jogging. Get a pair of nice traditional golf shoes. Next thing will be " denim like " golf trousers.

3) Drinking alcohol on the course apart from a nice malt or rusty nail from a hip flask.

;)
