Well after my driver going long and straight for the last couple of weeks and my short game improving round on round I arrived at the club today full of optimism. Well how wrong can you be, first tee off wild hook to the right, lost ball. 2nd hole topped drive, no bother still on fairway. 5i lovely strike hooked OOB. Lost ball. It got worse trust me, I couldn't hit a thing today, drives with wild slices, duffed chips. First time I've ever felt like going home at the turn. Soldiered on to no avail.

So they lured me in, then chewed me up and spat me out.

Ah well always next time, rant over.

They had me fooled today also. Last weekend a new PB - this weekend, with a medal card in my hand, I played awful.

No change in handicap courtesy of several fairways getting worked on so course wasn't playing full length otherwise I would be looking at a 0.1 back.

However - not all bad news I did pick up some cash for a 2 and managed a couple of birdies on the shortened holes - just shows how bad the rest of the day went - lol.

Classic mistake was when I left it short on a par 3 - playing partner had also but was at the side of the green. I chipped on but it looked like it hit his ball on the top and mine carried on to within 2 foot of the hole - tapped in then realised it was his ball - I had cannoned his forward and mine was sat greenside in the exact position his had been. Penalty and a few holes to recover my composure.

I was on a downward spiral all the way. The harder I tried the worse I got. My head was lifting, I tensed up and started trying to knock the ball into next week. Que wild slices with the driver and my irons going left! Can see some range sessions this week!

I've found some consistency from somewhere and started our medal really well, par/bogey/bogey/par/par golf which I was quite excited about. Just taking it steady. Then an awful, awful chip because I was thinking about getting it so close for another par left me with a double. Then a treble on a par 3 where I was looking at bogey at worst after my tee shot and it took me a couple of holes to recover.

7 week period of non-competetive golf now though, plenty of time to think about ball striking and finding some form.

The golfing gods are a cruel, cruel bunch though. You think you've got something worked out, then boom, down to Earth they bring you. Usually with a splash.

know the feeling ; teed off ysterday at 8.15, nice temp for 6 or 7 holes then turned into a sauna and i wilted

Got to 2 over after 10, then wilted. 3 shots to get out of greenside bunker at 11, 2 to get out of greenside bunker at 14. By that point i was mentally gone.
Had 3 lip outs, 3 birdie puts that stopped on the edge.
Was just too hot on the back 9, but all my fault
(except i would have liked to have seen some sand in the bunkers - although i normally take the line that it's a hazard and youshouldnt be in there teh first place)
