The gloves are off, or are they on?

Off after every shot and always off for chipping and putting. I'm bound to upset Dodger but putting it on is part of my pre-shot routine and is my trigger to focus and get ready. I'd have already selected my club as the others have played and the glove is my trigger to get the shot in my mind, take my address and stick it where I intended.

What do you generally do and any particular reason why?

Pip, I think this is quite a variable and is not a straight answer even with your "bizarre" option.
I Think the weather is the big variable, in the summer off after every shot due to sweaty palms. last few weeks never off even to putt to keep at least one hand not going numb.

Should have added some more options on where you stick it when it's off! Mine goes on the little bit of Velcro purposely fixed on the side of my Clicgear trolley. Simple but effective.

Try something else as it obviously aint working.

Preshot routines dont really work for us amateur part time golfers who only think we can play the game.
Thinking about what we are about to do "in the zone", then standing up and letting our bodies involuntarily jerk the arms and hands at the ball.

How many times have you done this preshot routine only to routinely hook, slice, fat, thin the ball anyway? measure that against how many went exactly to where you REALLY wanted it to go? I bet the non satisfactory ones outweigh the excellent ones.

I have a habit of a waggle, is this a routine that I think helps me? probably not. To be honest, I would say a sound setup is a million times better than any mental routine starting with fitting a glove.

I agree, that's why I just keep my glove on, even for putting. That extra bit of 'feel' that you get without it is rubbish to me, I don't want to feel anything, just swing the putter back and through on the right line. I actually [/i]think[/i] that I putt better with it on as there is less faffing about. I guess I might take it off every now and then to let my hands cool down if I was playing in 30° weather every day like the tour pros.

Off,on.off.on,off,on....na bloody wonder people take so long to play....part of a pre shot routine??!! Jesus.

Agree. I don't wear one and haven't for about 10 years except in the wet. When I did it was on all the time. No faffing about at all.

As for putting with a glove on? I think this chap managed with some success...... See here

I have a glove on from tee to up near the green. In the summer it's on and off between shots to stop it becoming wet with sweat but in the winter it's always on until I get to within the green area. Too cold to faff on with on and off all the time.

I practice a lot and tend to wear a glove on the range, otherwise i get a sore hand. On course i dont wear a glove by default but always carry one and will put it on when i feel i need to; this would depend on factors such as perceived grip, comfort, etc. Basically, I see the need to carry a glove and wear one when i feel like i need to, i certainly dont get hung up about it, its not a big part of my game.

At the moment the Macwets Winters (Pair) go on in the spikes bar before going to the 1st tee and come off when i get back in from the 18th. Unless i need to pick my nose or have a pee!

I keep my leather glove on all the time in Summer too.

Tried taking gloves off to putt but did not make a blind bit of difference, still missed.

On from tee to green and off for putting. Wasn't the reason golfers started wearing a glove on one hand was to prevent over tightening with that hand and not to give any extra grip, obviously the club grip does that job.

Off after every shot. Hardly faffing about as I have found I can take my glove off whilst actually walking as well!!! Who says men can't multi-task? :D

Don't wear it to chip or putt but will stick it on for bunker shots. No rhyme or reason to it apart from I automatically pick the ball up off the green or out of the hole with my left hand. If I was wearing my glove it would get the crap on it from the ball/ hole/ green etc.

never wear one, so I don't leave it behind and have to run in panic to the shop to buy one, or lose it half way round, or worry about it getting wet and stretched out of shape.

most I'll do at this end of the year is wear mitts as I walk up the fairway (or search the rough!)
