The forum event to end all forum events!

Good response lads. I expected so.

From reading the thread and adding the various private messages and e-mails I've received I count 28 "definites" for the Saturday, most of them from North of the border unsurprisingly. Add another 6 or 10 lads from Nairn GC to that as they'll be getting involved.

Another 14 "possibles" from this thread makes it around the 50 mark so far.

Howdy Andy,

Shall I put you down as a probable then? Good man.

Anyone who's interested in this outing (peripheral costs of accommodation and other green fees etc for optional games at Spey Valley & Nairn the days before and after) please e-mail me at johnfindlay@mac.com and I'll be able to firm up numbers with Mike Harris.

Cheers

Ok chaps.

We now have just short of 40 committed to the Castle Stuart day, many of whom want to play at Nairn the following morning. More than 20 are even gonna join us for a round at Spey Valley on the way up on the Friday for which I've negotiated a good deal of £55 for food before and after, buggies and golf. Best inland course I've played.

Distinct lack of forumers from south of the border, though, with the exception of the Goswick faithful.

I know it's a long way but it's worth the trip, guys. Anyone prepared to commit just e-mail me.

Do you think it would be possible (driving-wise) to play and STAY at Spey, then go on to Inverness (Castle S'). Spey are offering a deal for under £100 for golf and B&B.
For Spey, Castle S and 1 more, it could be worth the 1,500 miles.....

Yeah, of course Dave... but Nairn is only 40 minutes drive from Aviemore (beers with your forum buddies) and Castle Stuart is only 15 minutes drive from Nairn the following morning.

Could you not just fly to Edinburgh and we'll take you up? Seriously.

Come on you southerners, by late April in the Highlands the golf will be looking a bit like this.... ;) golf

Seriously tempted by this as I don't think I will be able to make my mates Turkey trip now....
Fly up Thursday, play 3 rounds and fly home again on Monday.
Could be the perfect long week-end.
PM sent John as very interested in Nairn & Spey Valley also.
;)

Is Boat of Garten worth delaying my flight home by a day for???
I've heard great things about it and it's always been one of those courses that I've wanted to play. May not get the chance to get up there again so possibly looking to slip a round in there on the Monday.
Honest opinions? And would anyone else be up for it????
Rob

Yes in my opinion, if your up there then play it is my advice.

I am there on Sunday so weather permitting I will post some pictures for you.

Thecraw.

Boat is terrific but I would advise late April is too early in the year to see the course anywhere near its best. You'll get preferred lies until end April so that will help but birch trees are not in leaf and grass growth wont have started properly that time of year. Good chance greens will be cored too. Elevation is 800 feet plus. Spey Valley will be similar being 5 miles or so away.

You would still enjoy it but Nairn and Castle Stuart will at least be far further on being at sea level and linksy.

Thanks for the information Birdieman and I look forward to seeing some photos if you manage to get any Craw.
Off in a mo to play 36 at Sundridge Park....I'm going to ache this evening...
