The forum at this time of year

Discussion... Surely...

Nope, a discussion would involve people giving well-thought out reasons to back up their opinion, then listening whilst the opposing argument is put forward and stopping for a second to consider this different point of view.

What you have is an argument, albeit not an overly aggressive one. People blindly stating their own opinions with little reasoning etc to back them up, not giving any other view but their own the time of day and then re-typing their own argument again slightly differently.

The day somebody says 'you know what, good point, I hadn't thought of that' it will become a discussion.

Maybe we need a custom fitting thread?

We've covered clubs, tees, gloves, towels, umbrellas......but we haven't covered measuring device fitting! :D

In relation to the OP I think that its a very valid thought. I've been on many different sports forums and its not just here that it happens.

One I don't yet post on but have been a watcher of for many years is the NFL UK one as i'm a massive fan of the sport and pretty much you can guarantee the close season after February it becomes open season for a spat between a few as they have no current games to watch.

Its part of social media, when there is no valid topic of interest to discuss its recycle the old ones and have a pop at each other. Now where to stand hmmmm.... Off to take a look at that.

More preferences than opinions , No ? i think most (not all) are happy once you stand still and stay quiet ..
interesting i think in terms of something we do on every hole and how often do we actually consider what we are doing

Ya think ? so long as it stays as it is its going ok ..

p.s cant believe we are on this thread discussing the possibilities of that thread ha

I know it is like we are waiting for the time bomb to go off:) If I had to bet which thread would get locked next it would be that one. I put my comment in on it and am now steering well clear.

To be fair this year is pretty calm compared to last year when the snow hit. That was where we had some real spats. As a mod at the time I am not exaggerating when I say that we were getting reported posts about every 20 minutes all day at the weekends.

Preferences for some as they are saying where they like people to stand, but a lot are saying where people should stand, and that's their opinion.

It does happen on every hole, but doesn't need any more consideration than it already gets i.e not a lot. If it's not your shot, stay quiet and out of the way, if it is your shot and you're unhappy, ask the person to move / be quiet. It shouldn't take 80+ posts to sum that up and wouldn't do if people realised that a lot of the posts are arguing with each other whilst trying to say the same thing!

Now, in terms of something we do each hole which needs more consideration; I'm thinking about angling my tee 10 degrees forward to get an extra 10 yards of distance, but only 5 degrees when downwind to get more air-time? Should I get custom fit?

Honestly though, don't think I've ever seen any capitulation, of this sort, on a forum ever....

Does happen, in my experience, when sat around a table but seemingly not possible when sat next to a keyboard...

Depends if the fairway was cut in the direction you are playing or against you , with you id go with the lower , against id go higher .. id advise advice :p and maybe custom fit for 3 seperate size tees to cover all options .. just check the fairway cut before you go

:D:D

I do enough capitulating at home ('yes dear' 'of course dear' 'no I would much rather go shopping with you than play golf') so it is going to take one hell of an argument to start me doing it on here ;)

You know, thats a great point you make there. Well done!

I'm still right though ;)
