The first rule of Fat club

I take 2 sugars and won't cut that out, that makes each cup approx 35 calories, a 125ml red wine (not lge) is circa 85 calories.

The point I was attempting to make was that you could stop drinking alcohol and start drinking tea out of fashion and actually add more calories, bit like those that stop smoking but then start eating like mad and put weight on!

I lost my spare half stone by cutting out my half spoon of sugar in tea/coffee, cut out the sugar in drinks and see what happens.
For me it certainly helped reduce the cake gene desire.

BTW re OP.
Man living in Linconshire buys a bike for excercise..............something wrong in that statement, unless you use 1st gear constantly.

along with the other answer above to Tony, the Cathedral cheese is also 30% less fat and the Lighter brand, these are all changes to what we'd normally buy and already add up to a significant reduction in fat & calories without having to change too much at first!

as i said, i wasnt having a dig! so bravo for making the changes at the shopping stage! i need some will power right now, our cupboards are full of an unholy amount of chocolate from the kids xmas, its mental!

I lost a stone last year by adopting the changes I've put into place today with this week's shop, reducing sugar in my tea won't be one of them, it just won't, I can lose that 1st stone quite easily I feel from elsewhere, especially removing late night snacks and half to a full bottle of red wine a night, when I lose that 1st stone I will then look to see what else I have to do for the second phase, so to speak, but it's started today and with monitoring calorie intake etc you can still have a treat now & then and still be on track, its not about fasting as that can be dangerous.

No food after 7pm also helped me + two alcohol free nights a week.
I would cut the sugar to one t/p then half then none.........it is surprisingly easy to do.

Is to talk about it.

Seeing as most of us are trying to drop a few pounds/stone, I am proposing a little support group on the forum for those who like me want to look and feel better.

I'm 17 stone and 3 pounds as of today. I want to get down to a flat 16 stone during 2016 and maintain that.

So I've gone and bought a bike, will play more golf and cricket, plan to change the diet somewhat and drop the booze intake.

We could organise small meetings for a ride or two, swap recipes, give encouragement etc.

Who's with me?

P.S. I know I can't fix ugly so I'm working on the fat part:D

See the thread I started " A year to get fit and less fat", 18 forumers signed up and the majority are posting up their stats (Weight [A must] Body Fat%, Neck, Chest, Waist and Hips [Optional]). I'm keeping a record in an Excel spread sheet and once I get a few more weigh in for January I'll post up the graph.

If you want I'll add you to the graph as well, so you can see your progress against all those others who are regularly posting up their figures.

3 cups of tea have more calories than a large glass of red wine, I know what I'll be reaching for 👍🍷

Only if you have sugar in your tea.

Mug of tea plus semi skimmed milk = 14 calories.
3 mugs = 42 cal

Red wine = 85 cal per 100ml
175 ml = 148 cal
175ml is what most pubs serve as "standard" these days

It's "facts" like this that makes it easy to put on weight / hard to lose it

Don't understand the attachment to sugar in tea.

The ultimate in empty calories.

Tea is a delicate, aromatic brew. Sugar kills it. Within two weeks you'd be spitting it out if someone put some in by mistake.

Which I do.

I'm not sure what you mean by the last sentence, but if you bothered to read further down I corrected and explained my post in #14.

I am working to my mug of tea with 2 sugars and semi-skimmed milk being circa 64 calories, 3 of those in the night would be 192 calories, so personally I'd rather have a large glass of wine and less calories!
