The EFL Thread

Extension until May 5th, so all league games will be completed but no mention of what happens if we make the play offs. Absolutely shocking for the EFL to wait until after 6 to release the news when they know how many fans are worried sick about the club being kicked out. Total clown show.

A bottle job from the EFL who are in danger of making a right horlicks of this and are they being fair to all the other cubs that have had points deductions for non-compliance with rules and regulations?

Still salty because of that game in 2017?!

We've had points deductions in 3 of the last 4 seasons, which actually resulted in our relegation. We've not signed a player for a fee since 2019 either and have reduced the wage bill massively. The issue is one that's never happened before in that an owner has just refused to sell and many believe actually wants the club to fold. There's been many genuine buyers but he's pulled the plug on every occasion. We've never gone into adminstration either unlike previous clubs where they struggled to find buyers.

We're actually one of the best investments going in the whole of European football. Superb stadium, world class training ground, elite Cat 1 academy, ideal location being near to London and Heathrow and a huge catchment area.

Think it would be wrong or certainly send poor messages if you get to the play offs and are allowed to compete without a deal being done. I think all the other cubs that have struggled with points deductions and/or transfer embargoes are looking at this and wondering why they aren't following through with sanctions after deadlines past. I have a lot of Reading fans in work and at the club so I don't have anything per se against them but it a body is going to go public and say a club is going out of business if they aren't sold don't keep back tracking

Not salty about ancient history and would take where we are all the time. Not sure about best investment or catchment area especially if there is doubt about owners and the club. I am more annoyed at the EFL and their empty threats

Do you know who the buyer is

Obviously that issue has to be sorted out or we won't exist.

Football's all about cycles. Look at Brentford and Bournemouth, the latter were literally close to the brink and within 8 years they were in the PL and have spent most of the time since there and that's a tiny club.

If we get back to the PL and actually invest, we'd be capable of getting crowds like Brighton and would need to expand the ground.

Anyway, we've not broken any rules this season and I think you're getting confused. This action is from the EFL is designed to drive the owner out and force him to sell.

Your owner has broken the rules by not selling. Think you are getting way ahead of yourself in terms of the PL

Do you know who the buyer is

Rob Couhig, the same guy who had a deal in place in the summer only for our owner to fail to sign off at the last minute! He's already been approved by the EFL and owned Wycombe until last year, so the EFL are obviously in contact with him and that's why they've given the club an extension...

I personally think he's in it for a quick turnaround and will invest wisely, get us promoted and back to the top half of the Championship and then sell to someone with deeper pockets. He'll run the club in a sensible manner and actually communicate with the fans which is all we ask.

Fingers crossed mate

But if he sells on aren't you in danger of getting another idiot in charge Granted no-one as bad as your current owner but there is always that danger that any good work Couhig does is wrecked again. Seems daft to go to all the effort of getting the club to dump it quickly

So you want the club and the fans to be punished for the actions of a parasite that has so far refused to sell and already killed two other clubs? Very weird outlook to have....

He's been disqualfied as a director by the EFL, the punishment for that can be anything up to expulsion. No where does it state it HAS to be expulsion.

Never want any club to go out of business. Means to much to fans and the community. My issue is the EFL threatened to take action which could have been expulsion and set two deadlines and failed to take any action of any sort. That just seems to make a mockery of their position in charge of the leagues and their ability to actually do anything

That's true for any club. All it takes is one bad owner and any club bar the really huge ones can plummet.

The main thing is getting the deal done and focusing on the play offs, so we can take part if we make it.

The EFL are clueless but have actually done the right thing here. They were never going to take the nuclear option at this point when there's clearly a credible buyer who they're engaging with.

Will it get done before the pay-offs. Knowing the current idiot he'll want to drag it out as long as he can

God knows! I don't think the EFL will allow us in the play offs unless it's done which would be a shame but any other option would be unfair on the other clubs.

I would take missing out and the club being sold in a heartbeat. I'm actually enjoying League One and prefer it to the Championship is many ways but I'm sure it'll wear off after another year

Would getting promoted be good for the club? It seems a bit of a jump and I wonder if you would be strong enough. Another season in league one and go up as champions with more stability

I truly hope that you fans get a satisfactory resolution to this sooner rather than later. Having been through similar trauma with my Club I appreciate how depressing it can be.

However I can't share your feelings regarding League One.

A single season has been more than enough.
