Stealing TWM's thunder I know but TonyN's original CF post does lead to this:

Do club fitters belong to a professional association?
If so, does it have a list of members and their locations?

If the answer to (2) is no then can we build a index of recommended (and not recommended) fitters, which could be stored in a specific thread?

Good idea. I do not have a clue about independent club builders. I have dealt with a couple who advertise in the golf mags., but they do not seem to have a full range of shafts to provide proper custom fitting.

To start this off, they do have a an association of which they are members. I can thoroughly recommend John Whitehead at www.strikerightgolf.com. Even his website is worth a read just to see what he does.

Ok adding to this thread, I can thouroughly recommend a chap called Danny Martinez at Fore Golf in Chester, on Sealand road.

£25 for 45 mins custom fit and that is reduced from the club(s) if you buy them so you effectively get the fit for free.

Alot of different stock and will not pressure you into anything. You tell him what your after and he will produce the best results, aslong as you have an open mind!
