Well it's nice to see that some golf clubs now have some competition for the most out of date attitudes when it comes to women.

Oh my god, they have breasts, they can't possibly join this club or be a bishop in 2012, the bible says so, they'll be wanting the vote next.

Yeah they are so out of touch and miles behind their competition. Look at all those female Immams and Cardinals that the Muslims and Catholics have got eh?

Not that I particularly care. I'm an atheist and don't believe in any of the great sky fairies.

Shame that a clear majority voting in favour of having women priests is consistently misreported as the church voting against it. Where else could you have a minority determining what happens in a decision making body? Let me think...

Its ridiculous , it also means that the seats in the house of lords reserved for the church can't be filled by women

Don't agree with banning women bishops, don't believe in the mumbo jumbo of religion, and don't believe there should be any bishops or other religous zealots in Parliament. I think I've achieved my ambition...I'm a grumpy old man!

If we're talking equality, isn't what the COE doing Illegal? Is it covered by the same laws?

In attacking the decision (which is absolutely none of his business) what's Diddy Cameroon on about with his 'get with the programme' comment? Besides I do rather struggle with any church having to come in to line with current sensibilities around equality - especially when enunciated by a politician in the form of a populist soundbite. If you don't like the rules then don't join the club.

Was listening to a debate yesterday and parliament oversees the CoE as it is established. Must admit I don't really know that much about it but I never knew that.

This is an interesting point (not the bit about St Dave, who will jump on any populist band wagon that happens to be passing his gated driveway that morning if there's a chance of a vote in it ), but the general homogenization of different faiths to toe the Pc line.
If all faiths are expected to have the same values and principals then whats the point ?
As SLH says, if you don't like the rules, don't join the club. Faith based religion is not compulsory .
Personally i'am atheist, much simpler, and ironically lest chance of offending someone.

I'm not a member of club CofE but I am a member of another similar club. My club doesn't have Bishops and Deacons and Arch-Bishops and any hierarchical stuff at all - so the issue of women on top doesn't really come into things. We do have the equivalent of a Club Chairman - and a good number of women have held that position. Seems to work fine. Come join us of you don't like Club CoE I'd say to those upset by the decision (but don't try and change any of our ways towards any of those you held dear in your previous club)

There is, however, absolutely the fact that the CoE is the established church of England i.e. that state religion set up by the state for the exclusive use of the state (CoE by dear old Henery the 8th as he didn't fancy Catholicism as you'll recall it meant he couldn't divorce his wife if she wasn't up to it).

But how far any 'ownership' by the of the state church in matters of doctrine goes I am not sure. However see state trying to force redefiition of 'marriage' and see the ** you get into.

Exactly the trouble with religions - think they can tell the rest of us what is and isn't "right". The church has no monopoly on morality!
